What is EKP?
EKP is Emotional-Kinesthetic Psychotherapy, a heart-centered, body-centered psychotherapy method Linda Marks developed and has taught and practiced for nearly twenty years. Working with the heart, touch with permission, the wisdom of the body and the intuitive guidance of the spirit, EKP creates a special sense of intimacy that deeply touches and transforms most all who participate.

Participants can be "client," witness or helper as an individual group member has a "turn" to do deeper heart-centered, body-centered psychospiritual work in the center. Since the electromagnetic field of the heart extends out 10 - 12 feet from our bodies, as we go deeper and open our hearts, we are all touched.

EKP helps restore our capacity as organs of perception. The skin is our largest organ, and a source of soul deep knowing, perception and expression. When our hearts and hands can work as one, we move beyond defenses safely and respectfully and find freedom, connection and expression.

LIVING FROM THE HEART

Friday May 20 8:30 - 10 pm

at the home of Margaret Arndt and David Sneickus

Our hearts thrive when our lives are "coherent," meaning we have a sense that life is purposeful, manageable and meaningful.  This approach to living makes us happier and healthier in all ways.  The messages we receive from the culture, however, do not often invite us to go inward and listen to our hearts.  Instead, we are told to do more, go faster and keep going....skipping over critical messages our hearts and bodies give us moment to moment and over time about the things we really need.

In this evening workshop, you will have a chance to slow down, bring your focus inwards and listen to your own heart.  We will explore some of our basic human needs (beyond food, clothing and shelter, like being welcome in the world, not having to do it all alone, and having emotional and spiritual connection) and how to bring more of what really matters into our lives.

When I started my psychotherapy practice in 1985, the world was dramatically different than today. There was no internet. There were no cell phones. There was no e-mail. There were no texts. All media--books, newspapers and magazines, were physical and in-print, not on-line. And if I wanted to have a conversation with someone, there were two options: face to face and on the phone.

In many ways, things were much simpler back then. When my first book, Living With Vision: Reclaiming the Power of the Heart, was published in 1988, I threw a big book launch party at a Boston area nightclub to bring people together to celebrate in community. If I were to publish a new book tomorrow, I would set up a Facebook fan page for the book, organize a party on Meetup.com, send out an event announcement using Constant Contact, post announcements on LinkedIn and on my regular Facebook page, and tweet updates as often as possible to let people know.

Find us on FacebookAltruism Is Good For YOU

While Gordon Gecko might have said "greed is good," from a physiology and well-being perspective, altruism is better.  The Institute of HeartMath reports that "when we act in other people's behalf, we feel better, more secure and experience less stress."

When we are helping others from a place of care, compassion and pure intent, both our brain and our heart produce oxytocin, the love or bonding hormone.
Heart cells as well as brain cells produce "feel good chemicals" including dopamine and endorphins.  Only genuine intent creates this hormonal benefit.

Find us on FacebookI Am by Tom Shadyac

Tom Shadyac thought he had it all.  A successful film producer, known for comedies like "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," "Bruce Almighty," :The Nutty Professor" and "Liar, Liar," Tom lived in a 17,000 square foot mansion, filled with art and exotic antiques, with a collection of private jets.  Everything changed when after a bike accident Tom suffered from Post-Concussion Syndrome.  He was rendered incapacitated, perhaps for good, and began a deep psychospiritual journey that led him to realize that he had it all WRONG.

He ultimately recovered with new insights into his prior life of excess and greed, and a sense of purpose to investigate how he personally, and all of us collectively, could improve how we live and walk in the world.  Tom made a documentary film, "I Am" to explore the questions "what is wrong with the world, and what can we do about it?"  Tom notes that the only living organism that takes more than what it needs is the cancer cell.  Our world has spawned an economic cancer, and we are all being eaten by its insatiable appetite.

In the film, Tom interviews great thinkers including Howard Zinn, before his death, Noam Chomsky, Thom Hartmann, Desmond Tutu and many others, presenting a provocative and compelling portrait of where we are, how we got here and where we need to go.  Yet, he leaves the viewer with an invitation to explore his own personal path of making a difference.  And the film makes a compelling case that each and every one of us needs to look inside our hearts and minds and find a way to help turn around what right now appears to be a planet on a crash course towards extinction.

This film lends itself to viewings in community groups, followed by discussions of how people can work individually and collectively to be part of the change, instead of part of the problem.

My first blog at www.heartspacecafe.com/blog will still be active, but it is built in forum software, which many people find more cumbersome to use than official "blog" software.

In an effort to cultivate more dialogue in more contemporarily relevant ways, my new blog at HealingHeartPower.blogspot.com is user friendly, and even something you can subscribe to.
Please let me know what you think of this new blog.
