May was a strange wine month for me - with more misses than hits, frankly, in all categories. The hits included a few huge, ripe, alcoholic Pinot Noirs from California - not necessarily my favorite style of Pinot Noir, but with such expressive, pretty fruit that they must be mentioned. If you're grilling, consider these rather than the big Cabernets that you may usually reach for.
On the other hand, the two whites and one pink that made the cut are wines that I could happily drink every single day of the summer. Food friendly, refreshing, easy-drinking, affordable. What else could you want? (Oh, and there's also a delicious Vintage Port thrown in for good, if random, measure. It was just that kind of month...)
