2014 ARCSA Annual Conference

Rainwater Harvesting:

Solutions to U.S. Water Supply Challenges

November 14-20, 2014

Phoenix Convention Center, Phoenix, AZ

Mark your calendars for ARCSA's 10th Annual Conference!

  • Educational Rainwater Workshops, Nov. 14-16
  • Annual Conference, Nov. 17-18
  • ARCSA/IA Expo, Nov. 19-20

This year our Conference will focus on the challenges that the United States water supply faces and how Rainwater Harvesting can provide economically and environmentally viable solutions. ARCSA's Celebrity Key Note Speaker and notable educators and professionals will discuss fragile water supplies, impacts on water supplies by drought and flooding, four steps to a clean tank, and other topics such as myths about rainwater harvesting systems. We will also discuss the latest on legislative actions, codes and standards, rainwater guidelines, and stormwater guidelines. A conference wrap-up will include a panel and attendee discussion on how rainwater catchment in the U.S. can help provide solutions to U.S. water challenges.

This year promises to be another exciting conference as we continue our relationship with the Irrigation Association (IA) and provide attendees both ARCSA's educational rainwater sessions and IA's educational irrigation sessions as well as access to the irrigation/rainwater/pond exhibition.

Check out our Conference Page for more information

Registration opens soon! In the meantime, we're looking for volunteers for the big event. Interested in helping out? Contact Heather Kinkade at info@arcsa.org.

●      Passive rainwater catchment through LID

●      When it storms, we collect (stormwater catchment systems)

●      Innovative technologies and approaches

●      Non-traditional applications & challenges (agricultural, cold climate, etc.)

ARCSA Fundraising
We seek energetic, experienced fundraisers

ARCSA's capacity to fulfill our mission is only limited only by the funds we can raise. We seek a few motivated members to join our team to gather personal and corporate donations; foundation and government grants; and bequests.

Member Uses Rainwater Catchment for Cows

ARCSA member, Jessica Patterson, is using rainwater catchment to supplement the water needs of her children's two young calves.
They collect rainwater off the calves' shed in a 50 gallon barrel. They fill it with well water when they are not expecting rain and use a float valve to keep the water tank at a constant level. They use a foam gutter insert as a filter. Eventually, they will add a larger barrel, and may extend their shed area to allow for more catchment surface area. It's great to see rainwater catchment being used in this capacity!
Ocean Beach Women's Club RWH Design

ARCSA Member, Greg Chick, describes his latest RWH project at the Ocean Beach Women's Club:

Rainwater catchment system, one 300 gallon tank, just under 1,000 sq. ft. roof area. Fog dew, will be captured, as well as rainfall that is about 10" per yr. Only one side of the roof will be guttered, as visible in picture, a leaf eater and over flow are installed. The tank was set on a raised foundation and a hose bib was installed for a drip system to be hooked to. At this point the gutters are scheduled, as is another tank. At that time if budget allows a first flush can be installed. This system is installed on a 90 yr. old building moved from another location in past. 2160 Bacon St., Ocean Beach Ca. This location will use all the water for a vegetable garden on site.  A class was held for volunteers who worked on the system and facts about design and water "realities" were presented. Materials and labor were donated as a local community project.

Member Wins IBS 2014 Best of Show

ARCSA member, RMS Rainwater Harvesting Systems, is a winner of the International Builders' Show 2014 Best of Show for a new design that converts rain into water that is safe for human consumption. The system arrives on site ready for installation and can be incorporated into almost any existing building, reducing water bills and lessening the need for reservoirs that take up valuable land.

ARCSA Seeks Regional Representatives!

ARCSA is reviving our Regional Representative program! Our hope is to expand the program to include more regions of the United States as well as other affiliated nations and areas of the world in order to expand knowledge of and education in sound rainwater harvesting practices.

To promote and encourage awareness of ARCSA and rainwater harvesting, we need as many willing volunteers as possible in as many places as we can find them. What we are ideally looking for in an ARCSA regional representative are the following characteristics:

  • A willingness to actively promote rainwater catchment, collection, and harvesting for all purposes
  • The ability to promote ARCSA
  • A willingness to contact other professionals within rainwater catchment and associated fields to share information about ARCSA training and continuing education
  • Promotion and use within your own business or work environment sound professional practices and the highest standards of quality and integrity
  • Be a certified ARCSA Accredited Professional or higher in good standing

There are many areas of the country not covered at this point and plenty of opportunity for interested people to jump in and participate.

If you are interested in being a Regional Representative, please contact ARCSA Board Member, Charlee Myers, at mtnmesa@usa.net.

Update Your Website With The

New Requirements for
ARCSA Professional Programs

The ARCSA Board voted to approve two motions relating to AP requirements. Motion 1 changes our 5 rainwater harvesting systems requirements for new APs, while Motion 2 requires ARCSA to look at outside institutions for mutually-beneficial partnerships and requires APs to purchase a Rainwater Harvesting Manual.
