Temporary Closure - Fairfax Behavioral Health Monroe

On Wednesday, April 6, the elevator at Fairfax Monroe experienced a
failure. Plans to repair the elevator to return it to full  functionality are in progress and estimated to take seven to 10 weeks.

During that time, the elevator will be inoperable for patient  transportation and the Fairfax Monroe location will temporarily close  for patient care.

In consultation with the Washington State Department of Health and the  Joint Commission and to maintain the safety and comfort of Fairfax  Monroe's patient population, the Older Adult Program will temporarily  operate out of Fairfax's main campus in Kirkland.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Lisa LaPlante, Chief Quality and Compliance Officer of EvergreenHealth Monroe,  or 360.794.1419.

New Recommendation: Metformin use in renal impairment

The Medical Letter - The FDA has required labeling changes that replace serum creatinine (SCr) with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) as the parameter used to determine the ap-propriateness of treatment with the biguanide metformin (Glucophage, and others) in patients with renal impairment. These changes will allow more patients with mild to moderate renal impairment to receive metformin, which is generally the first drug prescribed for treatment of type 2 diabetes.
