The Arts Opportunities newsletter is published by the Arizona Commission on the Arts to provide Arizona artists with relevant local, national and international opportunities. This monthly newsletter includes announcements of Arts Commission artists grants, programs and opportunities, along with a selection of current opportunities listed on the Arts Commission's website.

Join theatre professional Jorge Merced of Pregones Theater in a workshop that provides a creative primer on the art of adaptations. Participants learn to think of both literary and non-literary texts as inspiration and raw material for theater. The evening includes illustrative examples from the ensemble's existing original repertory and hands-on exercises using said text as a springboard for new interpretations. 
Asset Mapping as a Tool for Community Empowerment

In this interactive, hands-on workshop led by Southwest Folklife Alliance, artists, neighborhood and business leaders gain a deeper understanding of the field of "placemaking" and its potential benefits for community prosperity, using maps, questionnaires, photography, film, observation, personal interviews and techniques for making the most out of "hanging out" with people in casual settings. 

Land Tracings

The Arizona Commission on the Arts is proud to present Land Tracings, a group exhibition hosted by Chartreuse  in downtown Phoenix and featuring works by 2015 Artist Research & Development Grant recipients David Emitt Adams (Phoenix), Alex! Jimenez (Tucson), P.Nosa (Tucson), and artistic collaborators Lauren Strohacker and Kendra Sollars (Phoenix). In addition to showing their work, Jimenez, Strohacker and Sollars will participate in an AZ ArtWorker artist panel (open to the public), while P.Nosa will be in the gallery on Third Friday producing patches throughout the evening. 
Request for Qualifications: Mural Artists

Location: Phoenix, AZ
The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture, in partnership with Fry's Food Stores, a division of the Kroger Company, will commission two professional artists to create indoor murals for new Fry's grocery stores in Phoenix and Litchfield Park, Arizona. $7,500 will be awarded for each commission.

Tucson Pima Arts Council

Posada Life, in partnership with Tucson Pima Arts Council is seeking artists and artist teams to create various pieces of public art designed for Nakoma Sky, an new 80-acre retirement home. Work should fulfill the La Posada mission goal of enhancing seniors' well-being through amenities and providing a resort-style living community.

The Tubac Center for the Arts is currently accepting applicants for their upcoming exhibition. Work must be 2-D and relate to  Tubac-Tumacacori, Santa Cruz County or Southern Arizona. $600 in cash awards will be distributed. In addition, 24 pieces will be selected for the creation of limited edition Wish You Were Here postcards, highlighting work and artist info.

Magnum Photography Awards 2016

Magnum Photos and LensCulture are accepting applications for their 2016 Magnum Photography Awards. These awards are designed to discover photographers from around the world and provide exposure and recognition to the awardees. 12 awardees and 20 finalists will will be selected by the jurors. An additional 7 will be recognized as Juror's Picks and 5 Student Spotlight Awards.

Juried Fine Art Exhibit | Animals in Art - Our Partners on the Planet
Smithtown Township Arts Council

The Smithtown Township Arts Council seeks work that celebrates artists' explorations of animals. The juried exhibition is scheduled to take place between July 30 and August 24, 2016. Work will be displayed at the Mills Pond Gallery. A total of $1,750 will be awarded.

Treat Gallery is seeking work for their second annual juried  pop-up show,  located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In addition, t he exhibition will be  beneficial towards  Stomp Out Bullying, an anti-bullying organization.  Artists of all media are invited to  submit work that showcases what their particular 'sweet spot' is and are encouraged to share their humor.

The NYC4PA is seeking photographic works that showcase how trees are experienced. This is open to artists interpretation. Trae Scott will serve as the featured Juror. Arquetopia Foundation and International Artist Residency is currently accepting applications for various unique residency opportunities. Residencies range from 3 to 12 weeks long. Focuses range from printmaking and writing to master instruction on making natural pigments, plus six additional residencies.

LABVERDE encourages artists of all outlets to apply for their Art Immersion Program. This intensive 10 days will aim to enhance creativity while utilizing nature as a means of common ground. The program will feature guided tours, workshops, boat trips, seminars and presentations geared towards exploration of art, science and the environment in which artist is submersed in. 

Telluride Painting School

Telluride Painting School invites painters to apply for one of three 2-week long intensive painting workshops. Sessions are taught by internationally accredited artists Ying Li, John Goodrich and Ron Milewicz. These unique programs emphasize on helping artist's find and develop their voice within their work. Artists work in small classroom settings in order allow for one-on-one experiences with the instructor. 
Phoenix Center for the Arts

Emerging performance and installation artists are encouraged to apply for this unique residency, a program which focuses on the process and facilitation of idea development and iteration. 
2016 Photographer Fellowship | Aaron Siskind Foundation

Applications for the Aaron Siskind Foundation's Individual Photographer's Fellowship Grants are currently being accepted. Photo-based artists and photographers are encouraged to apply. Each year, awardees receive up to $10,000 each in order to support the exemplary commitment to their work and field.  
Play Everywhere Challenge

The Play Everywhere Challenge is seeking proposals for ways to make cities and communities more playable for children and their families. There will be a total of $1 million dollars in prizes awarded to selected applicants in order to make these ideas a reality. 
Seeding Artful Aging | National Grant Opportunity 
Aroha Philanthropies

Aroha Philanthropies is currently accepting applications from non-profit agencies with artful aging program proposals. Artful aging programs should be led by teaching artists who are able to share creative processes and techniques with older adults to provided a new found passion and purpose. Up to 15 awardees will be funded between $15,000 and $50,000. 
2016 Southwest Folklife Alliance Master-Apprentice Award

Southwest Folklife Alliance is currently accepting applications for the Master-Apprentice Award Program. This exciting new program will be awarding 6 Arizona based artists $2,500 each as well as $500 per apprentice to support heritage based artists.

The Robert Lehman Foundation is accepting applications from cultural organizations with ideas for projects aimed towards enhancing the part that visual arts plays within cultures. Proposals may be for projects ranging from museum exhibitions to scholarly publications and more.

Bilingual Teaching Artist

Childsplay is assembling a team of highly qualified, bilingual Teaching Artists to collaborate in the implementation of a dual language preschool literacy program. Funded by a grant through the Helios Foundation in partnership with Arizona State University, and the Osborn School District, this program will contribute to research surrounding the impact of dual language acquisition on literacy development in early learners. 
Corporate Advancement and Research Specialist

Phoenix Theatre is seeking a Corporate Advancement and Research Specialist to join their team. This full-time position is responsible for researching prospective organization alignment and funders, preparing and creating all grant proposals/reports, development of funding opportunities, and etc. Position works directly with the Associate Director of Development with the goal of growing and improving the Theatre's foundation.
