Ronald McDonald House Mailbox Cubby Goodie Bags
Ronald McDonald House Charities Baltimore

Date/Time: Ongoing - any day of the week, 9am - 9pm

Location: 635 West Lexington St, Baltimore

Each family staying at the Ronald McDonald House has a mailbox cubby that can be stuffed with gifts from our community. It's such a wonderful treat for the families to see their cubbies filled with goodies when they come back from the hospital; it really brightens their day! Be creative. Think of something you would like to receive or something you would want to send to a loved one. Here are some examples of great cubby stuffers:
  • Handmade Gifts: If you're feeling crafty, make stuffed animals, picture frames, greeting cards or any other creations to brighten up our families' day.
  • Small Gifts: Individually wrapped snacks or toiletries always make a great gift!
  • Snack Bags: Fill gift/lunch bags with water, juice boxes, chips, fruit snacks, granola bars or other non-perishable food items. Families can take these with them to the hospitals for a mid-day treat!
  • Child Activity Bags: Fill gift/lunch bags with crayons, markers, stickers, activity pads, coloring books or other fun activities.
  • Adult Goody Bags: Fill gift/lunch bags with pens, pencils, paper, note cards, crossword or other puzzle books, or other gifts just for parents.
  • Notes: Write notes of encouragement to the families and children staying at the Ronald McDonald House.
Please keep in mind that all goodies must be new. Gender-neutral items are best. We encourage volunteers to bring enough items to stuff 36 cubbies.

Ages: Everyone can participate

Time Commitment: Varies

Kids for Kids Sending Sunshine
Project Sunshine

Date/Time: Contact Tara to discuss specific volunteer projects

Location: Completed projects are sent to local hospitals, including Johns Hopkins Children's Center, Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, University of Maryland Children's Hospital, and Gilchrist Kids.

Project Sunshine volunteers assemble creative arts and crafts activity packages, create Sunny Gram cards, organize toy and book drives, and sew Surgi Dolls and other materials for children facing medical challenges. Upon completion, these items are sent to local pediatric medical facilities that have requested them for their young patients.
  • Craft Kits: Assemble individualized Craft Kits for a young patient to make a specific craft. The kits allow a child to be creative, use his or her imagination, and keep him or her from getting bored in the hospital! Craft Kits are customized based on seasons, and patient ages. Suggested for volunteers ages 8 and up.
  • Sunny Grams: Design a greeting card to brighten up a child's day. You can include a funny joke, or draw a picture. Suggested for volunteers ages 3 to 7.
  • Surgi Dolls: Help create and sew Surgi Dolls, which help children prepare for surgery and other medical procedures. This activity is recommended with adult supervision. Suggested for volunteers ages 12 and up.
  • Fundraisers: Hold a fundraiser at your school or community center. Host a lemonade sale, battle of the bands, bake sale, or walk-a-thon. Raising money helps Project Sunshine to provide important programming nationwide that lets hospitalized children forget about their illnesses and have fun!
  • Collection Drives: Many hospitals are in need of NEW books, games, toys, child friendly band-aids, and a variety of other supplies. These items serve as a distraction from hospital routine and help put a smile on a child's face. Please note that all materials must be NEW.
Ages: Everyone can participate

Time Commitment: Varies, volunteers should organize a minimum of one Sending Sunshine project.
