And a bird to the right sang Here;

We're close our capital campaign goal. We're just $25,000 shy of our target of $1.26 million.  Funds will support our purchase of the entire Coll-Green Angel Depot and expansion and upgrade of our facilities.

Now it's time to kick our efforts up a notch and make that final push. The fires have been lit through our new "I Gave, Did You?" initiative. Check out the great little video that demonstrates how busy our operations are.  Click here  to visit Generosity.com and support our sprint to the finish line!

Batsheva and The Teahouse crew had a great first ANO

Angels Night Out was tremendously successful this year! It takes a few months before all of the checks trickle in, but thus far we're looking at a 12% increase from last year in donation envelopes alone! We had more ambassadors than ever before, and they did a wonderful job. Two new restaurants that participated for the first time and did remarkably well are Sazon and Bourbon Grill.

We had a great time awarding the prizes to our lucky winners this
Lauren had too much fun gifting the tablet to Miquela
year. Sylvia and Jim Crain of Santa Fe won the Buffalo Thunder golf weekend get-away. They're going to have a friend teach them how to golf during a much needed vacation. David Lopez, one of the staff at L'Olivier was rendered speechless when he found out that he had won the $500 Visa card. He felt truly honored. The winner of the tablet, Miquela Ortiz Sena was fun to track down and award. We had to do some sleuthing and contact her mother who in turn sent Miquela over to our office. She had a feeling that she would win.  Thanks to everyone who entered the drawing. You're all winners to us!
Tasty TidbitsTastyTidbits

May is National Salsa Month.  Here in the southwest we know that most things are better topped with chile or salsa. What better way to celebrate the occasion than to whip up a batch of spicy salsa and open a fresh bag of tortilla chips. Y'know, there is more to salsa than just tomatoes, jalapenos and onions. Why not try out some of these exciting recipes for salsa that incorporate pineapple, jicama, mango or tomatillo!

Eleven jars won't be
nearly enough!

Speaking of tomatillo salsa, here's a recipe for Salsa Verde, which has more tang than heat. If you're in to canning, you can set aside your own stash for later in the season. The salsa is perfect on eggs!

Kitchen Tip of the Month:
How to Ripen an Avocado Quickly

It sometimes seems the only avocados available at the store are as hard as rocks.  To quickly ripen an un-ripe avocado, wrap the whole fruit in tinfoil and set it on a baking sheet.   Place it in the oven at 200°F for ten minutes, or until the avocado is soft.   Remove it from the oven, then put your soft, ripe avocado into the fridge until it cools.

It's not quite how nature intended . . . but it works!

Special Volunteer Opportunity...

Every year the city of Santa Fe holds a special CommUNITY Day on the Plaza. The event  showcases various nonprofit organizations that are seeking volunteers. It's a chance for Kitchen Angels to let the community know about the great work we do and the crucial services we provide to those in need. We're looking for at least four volunteers to staff two shifts at an information table on Saturday, May 14th. The first shift will be from 9-12, the second from 12-2. There will be music and food vendors, so it should be a fun event. Please contact Lauren to sign up!

Some of our delivery drivers are unsure of our policy and procedures around dealing with clients' dogs. Before our clients go on service with us, they sign a client agreement. One of the conditions for service is keeping dogs confined during delivery hours to ensure the safety of our volunteers. If you are EVER in a situation where you notice a client's dog is unrestrained, do not get out of your car- even if you suspect the dog is friendly. Call the office immediately and let us know that the client is not complying with their agreement on dog restraint. You can also call the client and let them know you will not deliver the meal until the animal is restrained. If a client owns a service dog that stays un-leashed while at home, we will make note of that on the client's delivery slip. We never want one of our volunteers to be placed in danger! Help us keep you safe - please let us know about any client with a loose dog. Thank you.

Thanks to Kitchen Angel Devon for his blog article featuring us!

Friday delivery driver Devon Jackson is a blogger with the design and marketing agency Poster Boyz. Poster Boyz assists with the marketing of Angels Night Out each year, and we love doing business with them. Devon recently blogged about Kitchen Angels, the services we provide, our partnerships, and the growth of our organization. Click here to read the full article. You might learn a thing or two about our history and future!
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Thanks

Angels Night Out was such a success this year because of the amazing work of so many volunteers!  Together, we made it a banner year. Thanks to the Angels Night Out committee, who helped guide the early planning phase. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to all of the restaurants that participated. Please continue to give them your patronage and thank them for their generosity. Many thanks to the liaisons this year: Haila Harvey, Stephanie Gonzales, OJ Niswonger, and April Vogel. Your assistance with the restaurants through every step of the way made operations run smoothly. Of course, thanks to those of you who dined out and ordered up to your heart's (and belly's) content as well as all of the staff members who chipped in and kept the ball rolling. And last, but certainly not least, a huge round of applause to the fabulous ambassadors who represent the finest of Kitchen Angels' volunteers. Thanks to each of you and your selfless service, networking, and telling people about the great work we do, we had a record year for donations. We know it's not an easy job. We really can't thank you enough!

A great big Thank You goes out to baking teacher Myoko Costello and the culinary arts students  from Santa Fe High School for baking and donating delicious desserts for our clients. We love teaming up with others to provide our valuable services. The partnership is of benefit to all of us. The kids learn how to bake yummy treats and our clients get to enjoy new delights. Who knows - some kids may even experience the joy that comes from donating time and effort to a good cause. We're happy to engage the next generation of volunteers.
