May 1-6:
Children's Book Week - "Guess the Book Character" to win prizes all week at the Library. Based on the clues given, guess the book characters from children's books to receive prizes. Clues for a new character will be posted every day, so there are six chances to win!Contact 512-556-3251.

May 3:
"Eric Carle" preschool story time at the Library at 10am. Join Ms. Emily for a special story time featuring various books by popular children's author Eric Carle. We'll watch a video about how Mr. Carle creates his illustrations, and then we'll make a craft based on his book The Very Busy Spider.Contact 512-556-3251.

May 4:
"Lampasas' Gilded Age" with Jane McMillin at the Library at 5:30pm. This talk is for anyone interested in Lampasas history. Ms. McMillin will share stories about life in Lampasas during the Gilded Age, including histories of many of the homes in Lampasas. Contact 512-556-3251.

May 4: National Firefighter's Day - In 1999, Firefighter Day was created after 5 firefighters died tragically during a wildfire in Australia when the direction of the wind changed, suddenly engulfing them in flames. It is celebrated on May 4th because that is Saint Florian's day. Saint Florian, who was said to be one of the first commanding firefighters of the Roman Battalion, saved many lives and is the saint of firefighters. On this date you are invited to remember the past firefighters who have died while serving our community or dedicated their lives to protecting the safety of us all.

May 6: City Council Election Day, 7am-7pm at the Elections Administrator's Office, 407 S. Pecan, Lampasas, Texas.   

May 9: "How Pinteresting!" Garden Decor at 5pm at the Library. Ladybugs, cacti, fruits, vegetables, and more! The possibilities are endless when it comes to painting rocks to decorate your garden! And it's fun! Sign up at the library. A $5 donation is requested. Contact 512-556-3251.

May 12-13: Riata Roundup Festival at Bar 17 Arena. Contact Chamber of Commerce at 512-556-5172.

May 13: Books & Badgers at the Library at 10:30am. Children of all ages are invited to come meet the "celebrity readers" from LHS. Enjoy a snack and a "fun in the sun" activity! Contact 512-556-3251.

May 13: The Lampasas Police Department will be hosting a Self Defense class for women of all ages and abilities at the Old Middle School Cafeteria from 10am-2pm. (207 East Avenue A). During this fun and exciting course demonstration, women will gain valuable life-saving skills and confidence. Share this experience with your family and friends! Space is limited so register today! May 14-20: National Police Week. Each year our nation loses between 140-160 law enforcement officers in the line of duty. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.

May 17: "Baby Animals" preschool story time at the Library at 10am. Join Ms. Jana for stories and a craft - all about baby animals! Contact 512-556-3251.

May 17: Cornelia Key Book Club (The Rainbow Comes and Goes) by Anderson Cooper and Gloria Vanderbilt at the Library at 11am. Contact 512-556-3251.

May 21-27: National EMS Week. May 21-27, 2017 is the 43rd annual National EMS Week In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation's communities. Back then, EMS was a new profession, and EMS practitioners had only just started to be recognized as a critical component of emergency medicine and the public health safety net.

May 23: "Cozy Mysteries and Amish Fiction" with Vannetta Chapman at the Library at 5:30pm. Local bestselling author Vannetta Chapman will share stories about a recent trip to a unique Amish community in Colorado as well as how the cozy mystery genre has been incorporated into Amish fiction. May 22- June 4:
Click It Or Ticket Campaign! The Lampasas Police Department will be joining other agencies around the Country for Click it or Ticket Campaign. The Lampasas Police Department will be increasing enforcement efforts related to safety belt violations, and unrestrained children.

May 27-29:
67th Annual A.C. January Memorial Golf Tournament at Hancock Park Golf Course from 8am-6pm. Course will be closed during this tournament. Contact 512-556-3202.

May 29:
City Offices & the Lampasas Public Library will be closed for Memorial Day. Trash service will run one day behind the entire week.
 2017 City Council Election

The City of Lampasas is holding a General Election on May 6, 2017 for the purpose of electing Mayor and City Council members.

Place 6: (Expired term) T.J. Monroe

January 18, 2017: First day for filing application for place on ballot.

February 17, 2017: Deadline to file application for place on ballot. (Must be received by 5pm)

April 24, 2017 - May 2, 2017: Early voting by personal appearance begins at the Elections Administrator's Office, 407 S. Pecan, between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday-Friday. Tuesday, April 25 and Tuesday, May 2 early voting by personal appearance will run from 7am until 7pm.

May 6, 2017: Election Day, 7am-7pm at the Elections Administrator's Office, 407 S. Pecan, Lampasas, Texas.

Filing In Person:
Physical address for filing in person is 312 E. Third Street, Lampasas, Texas.

Filing by Mail:
Address to mail applications for place on the ballot (if filing by mail) is City Secretary, 312 E. Third Street, Lampasas, Texas 76550.

Photo-of-the-Month Contest: Enter our photo-of-the-month contest by visiting www.cityoflampasas.com for contest rules and emailing your photo to photocontest@cityoflampasas.com . The City Council will announce the monthly winning photo at the first regular City Council meeting. Winners will receive a City of Lampasas insulated tumbler w/straw and posting of their photo on the web site.

Reminder from Lampasas Public Utilities: Sewer bills are based on the average water usage from December, January, and February. Please remember to notify LPU if you have any leaks during that time.

Can You Be Located In An Emergency? The owner of every house or building within the City is required to have a house number placed there on that is readily visible from the public right-of-way on which the structure fronts or faces. The numbers shall be a minimum of three inches in height and contrast with the background on which they are placed, made of material that will not tarnish, corrode or deteriorate unreasonably. Not only will this assist emergency personnel but the US Postal service as well.
