Meet Jane Woods,  Volunteer Coordinator

Jane Woods, our new Volunteer Coordinator, has been volunteering regularly on Tuesdays for NEK Habitat for several years, first in our ReSale Store and now in our new office.

She began volunteering when she retired from teaching music and choral directing, most recently at Hanover High School in NH. Jane's love of music has kept her active in several Upper Valley community music groups.

Hobbies include sugaring, sculling on the Connecticut River, bike riding, and cross country skiing.

You can reach her on most Tuesdays at 802-751-1212 or at  volunteer@nekhabitat.org. We are truly blessed to have Jane helping us!

Meet Bruce Starbuck, Project Coordinator

Bruce Starbuck has been volunteering for NEK Habitat since its reemergence in 2008, working on our building projects doing initial assessments and project planning, project supervising, building tasks of all kinds, as well as serving on our Building and Family Selection, and Steering Committees.

That Bruce is involved in a variety  of activities  at Habitat  is no surprise when you learn that he is a retired engineer , computer teacher, leader of bicycle tours, and general handy-man. [Has he really retired from being a handy-man? We think not.]

When he has free time, Bruce likes to bicycle, hike, and go kayaking. He and his wife Sally also like to travel across country in their little motor-home, which they have done about seven or eight times, so far....

You can reach Bruce at our offices 802-751-1212, or by emailing him at info@nekhabitat.org. Blessings abound: Bruce adds experience, knowledge and wisdom to our NEK Habitat staff.

Annual Yard Sale...and PIES, too!

Habitat NEK's Annual Yard Sale will be held this year in the big parking lot at our new offices located at 459 Portland Street in St. Johnsbury on Saturday, June 24, 9 am-1 pm. You will find household items, cabinets, furniture, toys, games, TV's, computers and more.

Also this year:  HOMEMADE PIES!

Gently used donations are welcome. Exceptions are clothes, books or cassette/VHS tapes --- we cannot use them in our event. Please call our office to arrange a donation for the yard sale or pies for the bake sale.

Habitat NEK is raising money this summer to replenish their building fund in order to help as many neighbors as possible have a safe, warm and secure home as they face the coming winter. Many projects this summer have included adding accessibility to homes, including ramps, widening doorways, and weather proofing. All proceeds will benefit local Habitat projects. For more details, or to offer your help with this event, call Habitat NEK's office at 802-751-1212.

Everyone is invited to shop the yard sale...buy a pie...and help our neighbors!

Critical Home Repair Programs

Habitat for Humanity offers several helpful services in our Critical Home Repair and Renovation programs:
  • Aging in Place
  • Home Preservation
  • Neighborhood Revitalization
  • Renovation
  • Repair
  • Weatherization
We are now getting ready for this spring and summer's work. This year, we are especially interested in taking on a home renovation project for a family living in a too-small space or in a house with multiple issues. If you are interested in participating in any of these programs and wonder if you and your home [or your neighborhood?] would qualify for a Habitat program, please contact Dan at 802-751-1212 or info@nekhabitat.org.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! If you would like to volunteer to be part of the efforts to improve the living conditions of our neighbors, helping to make our communities healthier, contact Jane at 802-751-1212 or volunteer@nekhabitat.org.

It's all about helping our NEK neighbors...and the communities they live in...to thrive.

Our mission: Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Our vision: A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Update on NEK's Annual
Building It Forward Campaign

Last spring, we set a fundraising goal for Habitat for Humanity in the Northeast Kingdom's 2016-17 fiscal year: $38,600. We hope to raise this amount through special events, and through individual, corporate, and church donations.

This amount should be enough to carry out our plans to do Critical Home Repairs in Caledonia, Orleans and S. Essex counties through Ju ne 30, 2017. To date, we've raised $24,299, but we still have $14,301 to go!

In order to fulfill our promise to help more of our neighbors in the NEK, we need your help!  Information about our work so far this fiscal year is available at our office, or on our website. Call or visit anytime.

All donations will be gratefully received and can be sent to Upper Valley Habitat NEK, 459 Portland Street, Suite 2, St Johnsbury, VT 05819.
