May is the time when flowers begin to bloom and garden veggies begin to sprout. We say goodbye to the cold snows of winter and hello to the long sunny days of summer! There's no better place than Waynesboro for outdoor recreation, and we celebrate with some great annual events, Where Good Nature Comes Naturally!
Blue Ridge Classic Soap Box Derby
Saturday, May 5
Main Street, Downtown Waynesboro, VA
The All-American Soap Box Derby, "the greatest amateur racing event in the world," is a youth gravity racing program for boys and girls ages 7 through 20 years old.
A fun day for our furry friends and their owners, fans, and future owners! The event features contests and prizes geared toward your pooch. Pet-related vendors will be on hand along with information booths for pet adoption and rescue agencies.
The Best Paddling Films in the world will be touring 120 cities worldwide, and Waynesboro is going to be one of them! There will be a social hour preceding the event beginning at 5:30 pm. Grab some dinner at the fabulous Hops Kitchen and wash it down with one (or two) of Basic City's fine brews. We'll also have area businesses and organizations prepared to point you in the direction of a number of paddling opportunities in the region.
Once the films start, you'll be amazed by the athleticism, dedication, and sheer beauty portrayed in each of the films. Each film varies in length from 2 minutes to 40 minutes and you won't want to miss a second of it. The films have been hand-selected from the best for Waynesboro viewers. You will walk away from the event amazed and inspired.
The Waynesboro Farmer's Market is back! Kicking off on Saturday, May 12th, the farmer's market will be held downtown from 9 AM to 12 PM under the Constitution Park Pavilion. Come out and get your fresh produce, local meat, fresh eggs, flowers, plants, baked goods, and more! As a special treat for opening day, Jimmy O will be playing for your musical enjoyment.
