CPE IS NOW A DISEASE OF PUBLIC HEALTH SIGNIFICANCE
Effective May 1, 2018, carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) infection or colonization is included in the Health Protection and Promotion Act regulations for reporting diseases of public health significance, formally known as reportable diseases. It is important to screen patients who are at high-risk for acquiring CPE so appropriate infection prevention and control (IPAC) measures can be implemented promptly for those who test positive for CPE.

BEST PRACTICES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANING

It's here! PIDAC's Environmental Cleaning for Infection Prevention and Control: 3rd Edition!
The Provincial Infectious Disease Advisory Committee on Infection Prevention and Control's (PIDAC-IPC) Best Practices for Environmental Cleaning for Prevention and Control of Infections; 3rd Edition is now available online. Updated content in the 2018 edition includes current evidence in environmental cleaning, audit methodologies, and new disinfection strategies such as the use of no-touch disinfection methods and the use of antimicrobial surfaces. There are a number of new and revised recommendations in the 2018 edition. Of note is the revised ranking system for recommendations to take into account not only the assessment of the quality of evidence, but the potential risk associated with an intervention. Frequently used tools from the document will be released as stand-alone resources in the Summer, 2018. If you have any questions about the application of the document or any of its resources, please contact the IPAC Regional Office .
