Jacqueline Woodson to Keynote 18th Annual Supportive Housing Conference
We are delighted to announce that acclaimed author and National Book Award winner Jacqueline Woodson will give the morning keynote address at our 18th Annual New York State Supportive Housing Conference this year! We will also have eminent anti-racism educator Marc Dones discuss the history of structural racism and homelessness and how to address it in a two-part workshop.

Third Round of ESSHI RFP Released
New York State has released the third-round Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) Request for Proposals (RFP) , due June 19th . The State is issuing this RFP to advance the five-year goal of developing more than 6,000 units of supportive housing over five years (5,000 units in NYC and 1,000 units in the rest of the state).

HUD's New Rent Increase Proposal Explained
HUD Secretary Ben Carson’s legislative proposal, The Making Affordable Housing Work Act of 2018, includes a startling series of amendments aimed at significantly increasing the tenant rent burden under Section 8, Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH), public housing and other federal rental assistance programs.

NYS 2018-19 Budget and Supportive Housing
The New York State passed its FY 2018-19 budget and it includes several items that are important for the supportive housing community.

Committee on General Welfare Examines NYC 15/15 Progress in City Council Hearing
On April 24, 2018, the Committee on General Welfare, chaired by Council Member Stephen Levin, held an oversight hearing to examine the progress of the City’s new supportive housing program, NYC 15/15. Speaker Corey Johnson gave opening remarks and testimonies were provided by Commissioner Steven Banks of the Human Resources Administration (HRA) and Maria Torres Springer, Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), among others.

The Network hosted two panel discussions on the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) in advance of this year’s Request for Proposals (RFP). The workshops, held in Albany and Buffalo, highlighted the ESSHI process including what’s new in the upcoming RFP. 

The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York has just released its 2018 Affordable Housing Program application package, which can provide up to $40,000 per unit for competitive projects.
