What's on Your Summer Bucket List?
By Meaghan Sullivan, Foundation Executive Director

This weekend my kids and I spent a rainy afternoon huddled around the laptop putting together the annual summer bucket list. Every year summer seems to go by in a flash. Building this list together helps us make the most of our time, creating family memories that I hope will last a lifetime.

Between visits to the amusement park, camping trips and kayaking adventures, I want to include something that not only brings us together as a family but pushes my kids to do something positive with their time off. This summer we've added "Build-A-Backpack" to our summer bucket list. As part of the Foundation's Lend-A-Hand program,  we'll get a list of school supplies from the Foundation and will purchase all the items on the list so that a backpack and needed supplies will be provided to a DCSD student in need. I'm estimating it will cost about $40.

My kids are looking forward to picking out the best art supplies and pencils (Crayola and Ticonderoga, of course!) in the coolest colors (silver and "glitter," is that really a color?). I'm looking forward to the lessons they'll learn about empathy and the sense of deep gratitude and appreciation they'll develop by helping others. It is a small thing, but might be the most important one on our summer bucket list.

I hope your family will consider joining mine in helping ensure every DCSD student has the tools they need to start the 2018/19 school year strong.  To sign up to fill a backpack email Ashley with the subject line: Build-a-backpack.

The Foundation team wishes you a summer filled with wonderful adventures, quality family time and a satisfying check mark on every item on your summer bucket list.
