Shape the Future of Building Codes

AIA architects are needed to help shape the direction of our nation's model construction codes. The International Code Council (ICC) is accepting applications to sit on its 2018/2019 Code Committees during the next code cycle to develop the 2021 editions of the ICC International Codes. These committees will have a significant influence on the content of these codes.

There are currently 17 Code Committees responsible for the review and evaluation of code change proposals submitted to the 2018 ICC International Codes (which will be published in fall 2017). The codes will be grouped into two cycles: 1. 2018 Group A Code Committees considering code change proposals (submitted before January 2018) at the 2018 Committee Action Hearing during the period of April 15 - 25, 2018 in Columbus, OH; 2. 2019 Group B Code Committees considering code change proposals (submitted before January 2019) at the 2019 Committee Action Hearing during the period of April 28 - May 8, 2019 in Albuquerque, NM.

CLICK HERE to access an application, which are due June 1, 2017. Those selected are authorized to travel at ICC's expense when participating at the Committee Action Hearings in April 2018 and/or April 2019. Also, if you do decide to apply for one or more ICC code committee, please send a note and a copy of your application to codes@aia.org.

AIA Public Awareness Campaign 2017: Blueprint for Better

This year's campaign shines a light on the powerful social impact of architects and their work. In
partnership with their clients and communities, architects plant the seeds that blossom into stronger  neighborhoods, towns and cities. CLICK HERE to learn more about how AIA is getting the word out and  how you can become involved.

How to Talk About Architecture with Clients and the Public

While there is great respect for architects, there's little understanding of what we do, or how our work affects others. It's our job to help others understand what we do, and more importantly, why it's important to them. We know well that when we collaborate closely with clients, we can design and build better homes, communities and public spaces that benefit all. Supported by a tremendous amount of research and developed with AIA members, the AIA Message Book helps bridge the gap between architects and the public. The AIA Message Book assists you in explaining the work of architects. Using proof points, statistics, and anecdotes grouped in topic areas that you can customize, this guide will help with your communications and messaging efforts. CLICK HERE to learn more.
