e-Hazard Safety Cycle™ White Papers Commemorate Electrical Safety Month

This month the e-Hazard blog will be featuring our new white papers on the e-Hazard Safety Cycle™. Our cycle builds on common safety improvement models to help companies understand how to grow their electrical safety program. Being one of the largest electrical safety training companies and offering services in all aspects of electrical safety, we wanted to continue to educate companies - whether they are e-Hazard customers or not.

Many of the presentations over the years at the IEEE Electrical Safety Workshop have emphasized the Deming/Ishikawa model of Plan, Do, Check and Act. In explaining this to customers for many years, we have developed a strategy for improvement of electrical safety programs.

Learning from other companies and especially from worker and management input from our training classes at thousands of companies all over the world, we have tweaked the Deming model to adapt the cycle for electrical safety. Don’t wait for an accident or an OSHA citation to start using the e-Hazard Safety Cycle™: Envision, Execute, Evaluate and Evolve. Start NOW.

This month you can read the following or subscribe to the newsletter and receive all of these in a printable PDF format:

  • The e-Hazard Safety Cycle™: Auditing
  • The e-Hazard Safety Cycle™: Electrical Safety Maintenance
  • The e-Hazard Safety Cycle™: Electrical Safety Program (ESP)
  • The e-Hazard Safety Cycle™: Incident Investigation
  • The e-Hazard Safety Cycle™: Risk Assessment (RA)
  • The e-Hazard Safety Cycle™: Training
What is your reaction when you hear that your electrical department at your plant is going to be audited? If your stomach immediately churns or the tension in your neck precipitates a headache, you’re not alone. I’m not going to pretend that an audit is not a stressful time for employees and supervisors. Following are some [...]

Question: Could an end user wear a 12″ High voltage protector over a Class 00/0 14″ rubber glove? The difference between a 13″ Class 00-/0 protector and a 12″ Class 1-4 protector is the cuff color. Answer: Some companies will not allow this because they want the protector cuff cover to indicate that the glove is...

IEEE’s 53rd Industrial and Commercial Power System Conference will be held in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada on May 8-11, 2017. Mike Doherty of e-Hazard is scheduled to present a tutorial on Thursday, May 11. He will explain the changes and continual improvement process best practices as demonstrated between the 2015 and soon-to- be-released 2018 [...]

A Job Usually Taken for Granted: Lineman Appreciation Day was started to publicly thank our utility workers who construct and maintain our electrical lines – those who work in our communities today and those who worked in the late 1800s when electricity was a new commodity. The electrical industry has grown by leaps and bounds since [...]

CONGRATULATIONS TO MIKE DOHERTY

Mike Doherty, of e-Hazard Canada, was honored with the Technical Presentation Award – Best of Electrical Safety at the NETA PowerTest Conference Feb. 27-Mar. 3.  (NETA is the InterNational Electrical Testing Association.)

Mike’s presentation, Human Performance Best Practices in Electrical Safety, cited the fact that human error is often the cause of incidents, and human nature can get in the way of identifying the real facts of an incident.  Who wants to admit that their actions might have contributed to a problem or injury at work? However, it is also true that individuals themselves are rarely totally at fault, and Mike quotes noted management consultant W. Edwards Deming, who said “A bad system will beat a good person every time.”

Ultimately, it takes a strong, ethical top leadership team to establish an environment of accountability that is non-blaming, to look beyond the observable causes to the root causes of problems, and to learn from its mistakes.
