~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
April was certainly a whirlwind, as expected. And also as expected, some people stepped forward to help knock it out of the park! I want to express my thanks to Javier, Julie and Angela, who helped plan the Precinct Caucuses and LD Caucus, and I really want to give a high five to David Miller, who helped me put together the agenda and program for the Candidate forum on April 19th. These events could not have happened without their help.
This is turning out to be an expensive year for the 46th District Democrats. The precinct and district caucuses were held in local school buildings, and honestly we planned for a much larger turnout than we actually received. And this year the Candidates Forum was held at a new venue - the Lake City Elks Club. All of these accessible locations are rented at full price, a considerable cost to the district. While we are grateful to Barbara Whitt for her wonderful and ongoing efforts to keep us all fed and raise money, we need to raise more funds to help cover these operational costs and to do the very best job we can to elect Democrats to every level of government. If there was ever a time to dig a little deeper to ensure that our grassroots democracy still works and can match the power of the 1% who are sending tens of millions to the Super PACs - this is it folks! Every little bit helps.
Please help us by renewing your membership - or asking a friend to become a new member, by pitching in at caucuses and other meetings with a contribution, and by attending all our annual events and fundraisers. Our Holiday Parties are not to be missed! Your 46th District Executive Board are a creative and frugal group who will spend your dollars as wisely as possible, always with your best interests in mind. Please help keep the Democratic Party a strong and vibrant grassroots organization that represents all people and is committed to helping the best Democratic candidates win this next election, because as our President says - it's a make or break moment for our country and we all need to do our fair share to ensure that everyone gets a fair chance. Let's Move Forward! Please help sustain your local party organization with a contribution to the 46th District Democrats.
Our May meeting will be a week later than usual, on May 24th. This is so we can get a complete list of people who have filed for office instead of being in the middle of filing week. It also helps us focus on getting our 2012 PCO candidates filed instead of worrying about a meeting in the middle of the week. We will also be starting a half hour earlier than usual, at 7:00 instead of 7:30.
The locations for the Congressional District Caucuses on May 20th have been set as follows: 1st CD Caucus: Glacier Peak High School, Performing Arts Center, 7401 144th Pl. SE, Snohomish, WA 98296, starting at 1pm. 7th CD Caucus: North Seattle Community College, Wellness Center Building, 9600 College Way N, Seattle, WA 98103, starting at 9am.
I hope we see a great group elected to the National Convention from the 46th! (We've tied the 36th for the highest number of candidates for National Delegate filed with the state party!)
The spring weather in the Puget Sound area is amazing this year so far. Spend some time with family. It's the most important aspect of our lives.
Filing for PCO ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Filing week is a huge event in Washington State, with one of the most important races (for the Democratic Party) being the Precinct Committee Officer. The 46th has the highest number of PCOs of any LD in the state, and our strength depends on them going into the August and November elections. If you are a PCO and plan to file again, please read the article on Page 9 of the Demogram. If you won't be able to file, please let us know!
