Hello -

Well, it's that time of year...where the grass begins to find its best color again, allergies blossom, and...we find ourselves amidst the final full month of school! If you're anything like myself, you may be wondering where the time went.

As we prepare to wrap up another year of education in Wauwatosa, we have much to be proud of. We had numerous students perform at their highest level in state competitions in both athletics and academics, we took a step forward in planning for our future by forming a Facilities Advisory Committee to intimately examine the needs of the district, and the School Board approved new elementary math resources which will help us in our goal of continuous improvement in student learning.

I know this time of year can be difficult as we yearn for summer vacations, trips to the beach, and family bike rides but I hope you'll help us keep the focus in our remaining days of this school year and finish strong.

On June 9th and 10th, we'll celebrate our graduating seniors. It is always a favorite day of mine as students and families enjoy the feeling of a job well done; the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another. What a privilege to have been a part of the journey.

I can't say it enough: thank you for choosing Wauwatosa School District and partnering with us. Please read below for some important updates and points of pride.

Sincerely,

Phil Ertl
Superintendent

District honors 25-year and retiring employees

Congratulations to our employees celebrating 25 years of service with the Wauwatosa School District, and to those who will retire this year! We celebrated both groups of honorees during our annual Recognition Dinner on Tuesday, April 25.

The men and women we honored have served the students of the District in various ways for varying periods of time and in one way or another, each of them have contributed to our mission of providing an outstanding education to the children of Wauwatosa and we are so grateful for them!

Tosa student competes in state competion for National History Day
Kudos to Beatrice Lazarski, an 8th grader at Longfellow Middle School! On Saturday, April 22nd, she competed at the Wisconsin National History Day State competition in Madison.

Her research paper about Zeddie Quitman Hyler - the first African American to buy property and build a home in Wauwatosa - advanced to the final round. Her paper was also a finalist for the Local History and Wisconsin State History awards. In Wisconsin, over 10,000 students participated in the program and 650 students qualified for the state competition. #tosaproud
