MAY DAY, MAY DAY!

OK, gang, are we all meeting at the NYC Dance Parade on May 19th? If you do want to march with us, and you want or need to brush up on the Shim Sham, join us on May 4th or 18th to prepare for it.

Listen, I WANT at least 100 ATDF Tap Dancers and friends to participate! It's a GREAT event, and it's a GREAT way to have a bit of fun and an even GREATER way to support the ATDF, our mission and the form. So, what are YOU waiting for?

Always check our News & Events page because you never know what might pop up in the meantime.

So, let's Tap it up, Tap it down, Tap it in and Tap it out!

"The sting and shame of not having enough money for tap classes as a young child was a pretty bad feeling. What ATDF does to provide lessons for children is incredible for those who are talented, for those who simply love tap dancing, and for those children who will get a huge boost of self confidence from learning the steps and putting them together to music.

I was able to soothe my early loss for tap by watching Shirley Temple movies. I loved how she smiled as she tapped and loved to watch her tap up the staircase with Bill "Bojangles" Robinson in The Little Colonel. Watching that clip on YouTube, to this day, brings me joy.

Ryan Casey, my first tap teacher in Boston, when I began at age 59, had taught at ATDF while a student at NYU. He told me to "watch how Susan Hebach gently moves her shoulders up and down when she taps-it's so cool."  I have taken her class and he is so right!

The teachers at ATDF are so kind and patient, and I think that may be because the whole place is set up to include these qualities in their approach with every tapper, whatever level.

Christina Carminucci, Felipe Galganni, Lynn Schwab, and Tony Waag have all put in in their time with this uncoordinated but persistent tap lover, and having Liz Cousins provide an encouraging smile as I leave each experience is just the icing on the cake!"  Kathleen
