Homestead Days - June 23-24

The annual community celebration will be held in Beatrice; theme is "Celebrating Our Bright Future". Parade date is Saturday, June 24, 10:00 am; entries due June 1, fee: $20.00. Gage County 4-H is registered for the parade; we invite 4-H members, families and volunteers to join with us as we hand out the 2017 Gage County Fair brochure and celebrate the good life in 4-H.
Tractor Safety Training

All youth, ages 14 and 15, working on a farm or ranch other than their own must be certified through a
Hazardous Occupations Course. Training dates and sites are offered in Nebraska this summer. Nearest location is Grand Island College Park, July 10-11. Cost is $60.00. Pre-register at 308-385-5088.

Nebraska Soybean & Corn Pocket Field Guide

This book is packed full of information on soybean and corn management, weed identification, crop herbicide injury, sprayer calibration, soil sampling and much much more!

Pick up your Field Guide now at the Gage County Extension Office.  It is FREE and available until supplies lasts.

Gage County Fair & Expo
We are blessed to live in a state that embodies the label "The Good Life," and this year, we get to celebrate all that that means on Nebraska's 150th birthday!  It's a year long celebration and the Gage County Fair is going to be celebrating with families, fun, agriculture, education and entertainment, so mark you calendars for July 26th through July 30th and be prepared for some BIG fun! 4-H Clover Chase

Nebraska 4-H is hosting a photo scavenger hunt. Download the free app (Eventzee), complete
challenges and submit photo entries on social media using #NE4HChase. After submitting photos and earning 150 points, participants will be eligible to receive a commemorative water bottle and be entered into a drawing to win a drone with video capability.

2017 Livestock Identification
ID deadlines remain the same - June 1 - horse; June 15 is the deadline to submit I.D. sheets for beef, bucket calves, sheep, swine, dairy, goats, llamas/alpacas and rabbits (State Fair). Please submit to the Extension Office the paper I.D. sheet for all animals (as in past years) by the appropriate deadline. Tags & ID sheets at the Extension Office or online:
- NOTE: Livestock and Horse I.D. sheets will only by accepted after the above deadlines in case of a hardship (death, injury, etc. of a project animal) with prior written approval of a 4-H club leader and
veterinarian, pending review of the 4-H Council. We will strictly adhere to the June 1 and June 15 deadlines in fairness to all 4-H &FFA youth and families.
- State Fair & Ak-Sar-Ben market beef, sheep, swine and goats must be identified with an EID tag and DNA ($6.00 each). Pick up tags at Extension Office (no charge).
- Ak-Sar-Ben - swine may have ear notches OR EID tag
- Premises ID required for State Fair & Ak-Sar-Ben entries; call for the flyer or call: 402-471-2351
- Breeding animals for State Fair & Ak-Sar-Ben must complete the Breeding Nomination Card, due June 15 ($2.00 fee). Tattoo required identification for breeding heifers.
-Youth have until State Fair entry deadline (August 10) to declare if your livestock will show as 4-H or FFA and NO changes will be allowed - Ear notching completed on your show hogs? The county fair is coming soon!
- USDA identification (scrapies tags) required for all female sheep and goats at County Fair, State Fair and Ak-Sar-Ben. Get your free tags from the Veterinary Service Office, call 402-434-2300. - 2017 Animal Identification Guidelines-Gage County flyer available

Yard and Garden
