Thanks to our Donors and Community Partners...
Barnabas Endowment Off to a Great Start

Thanks to the generous support of our donors, and  the downtown merchants who took part in our recent Endowment Fundraiser, Barnabas Center is well on its way to achieving its long term financial goals. But we continue to need your help!
Late last month,  10 percent of the total sales at five local shops were donated in support of our Campaign for Sustainability Endowment Fund. After the amounts were tallied up, one of our outstanding donors also made a donation to the endowment fund equal to 100 percent of the day's net sales.
Barnabas Center would like to thank the owners/managers of the Picnic Basket, Art on Centre, Pearl, lori-lulu, and Fernandina's newest shop, JJ Cooper, for their generous support. Nearly $18,000 was raised!

Mail Carriers to deliver your donations to Food Pantry
Help Barnabas Stamp Out Hunger!

Please leave a bag or box of non-perishable food items by your mailbox on Saturday May 13th!
Final preparations are underway for the 25th annual Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive on Saturday, May 13. Letter carriers in our community will pick up your donations and deliver them to the Barnabas Food Pantry throughout the day.
America's letter carriers will be ready for it, NALC President Fredric Rolando said. "Preparation and coordination for Food Drive Day can be challenging," he said. "Despite the challenges, we look forward to it each year because of the important role we're playing in the fight against hunger in this country."
As letter carriers are keenly aware, too many of our customers live in challenging situations, uncertain of where their next meal will come.
"We deliver to every address in America at least six days a week," Rolando said, "and because we're such a consistent and familiar presence in neighborhoods, we're all too familiar with the unfortunate reality of ongoing hunger."
Over the last 24 national food drives, letter carriers have collected more than 1.5 billion pounds of food, helped by untold thousands of fellow postal employees, retired letter carriers, family members and friends.

Your IRA Can Help Barnabas!

There are many ways that you can help Barnabas connect our neighbors in need to help and hope- from volunteering to donating items to our New to You Resale Store.  And, for our donors in their 70s-there's a way you can turn your IRA into a wonderful charitable gift with many lasting benefits - both for you and for Barnabas!
It's now permissible to contribute individual retirement account (IRA) assets to charity, free from federal taxes, annually.  This continues to be good news because, prior to 2006, all lifetime distributions from IRAs were taxed, even those that were given to charity.
The Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA) permitted individuals to roll over up to $100,000 from an IRA account directly to a qualifying charity without recognizing the assets transferred to the qualifying charity as income.  Fortunately, in 2015, Congress passed an act to make this unique charitable giving opportunity permanent.  Single and married individuals 70.5 and older are eligible to give in this way from their individual retirement accounts.
Your gift will impact our important work of connecting people to help and hope right here in Nassau county!  For more information, please contact Tania Yount, Chief Development Officer, at (904) 261-7000 ext. 107 or [email protected].
