The month of May is gearing up to be as busy as April was, with events scheduled for almost every weekend. Spring sports are already in full swing (pun intended)! Activities planned for this month include: Maumelle Relay for Life, RUM 2013 (Rev Up Maumelle), White Oak Bayou Steering Committee Public forums, Pop's Farmers Market, Maumelle Memorial Day Ceremony and lots more! You can also attend baseball and softball games or watch soccer matches at their respective complexes. Be sure to check the calendar to see what's happening and when!
Animal Services personnel are continuing to provide extra patrols throughout the city, due to the three confirmed rabid skunks in and around the Maumelle area. If you witness any wild animal exhibiting strange behavior, especially a skunk, during daylight hours - do not approach - contact Animal Services at 851- 6219!
May is the month that we honor our military personnel, who have given their lives defending America - our way of life and our rights. The City of Maumelle will be hosting the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at Lake Willastein Park on Monday, May 27th at 10:00 am. The "Rev Up Maumelle" event is sponsored by the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association; the proceeds from this event will benefit Central Arkansas' Veterans homes. This event will also be held at Lake Willastein on May 18th from 9 am to 5 pm. I hope you will be able attend at least one of these events to show support for our veterans.
The 18 hour, annual Relay for Life event will be held May 17th and 18th at the Rolling Oaks Sports Complex. Participants gather for food, fun and activities, but the real reason is the fight against cancer. All proceeds from this event will benefit the American Cancer Society. We have all been touched by this disease; we can all support this event either by participating or by making a donation.
This newsletter's primary purpose is to help you stay informed about events in Maumelle and what city officials and city departments are doing. If you would like more information about what is going on in Maumelle, please contact us. We are always ready and willing to share information with residents and visitors.
