Take a moment to  Imagine. What will Immanuel look like as we continue to grow into fullness and maturity of faith? What will your life look like as you continue to grow in your own faith? In what new ways will you be able to love your family and friends? In what new ways will Immanuel be able to reach out and support the children, youth and families of Lake Geneva? In what new ways might God call us to grow in these coming months and years?
Our 'Imagine' Capital Appeal is off to a great start. We know this is an appeal focused on debt reduction, but it's more than that. This is an important moment for Immanuel. This is an important moment for God and the work we are called to do here in Jesus' name.
Our first 6 months at Immanuel have been incredible in many ways. We had a strong run through Christmas, regaining our spiritual footing and looking forward to 2018 with a very real sense of hope and optimism. We rode that wave of the Spirit into Lent and experienced rich spiritual growth on our Wednesday evening meals and contemplative worship. Several of our members offered powerful reflections on Jesus and faith. Holy Week was wonderfully intense, culminating in an Easter Cantata celebration that captured the intensity of the resurrection and continues to fill us with life today.
Immanuel experienced a rough transition period during the interim, but we have reclaimed our identity. We are a Spirit filled congregation that has the capacity to welcome everyone with the love of Jesus. We are a community where we strive to love and support one another.  And now, we have an opportunity to Imagine. This campaign is an opportunity for us to consider that God has something brand new in store for us. It's not just about reclaiming what once was - it's about following the lead of the Holy Spirit to become what is next. Imagine what God has in store for us at Immanuel...
Please notice the highlighted letters in our Imagine logo. "I'm in!" As we continue through this campaign, consider your place at Immanuel and your life with God. Are you in? Are you ready to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit? Are you hopeful that you may find new and deeper levels of love in which to grow and share? Jesus calls to us through the scriptures, through our community of faith, and through whispers (and sometimes shouts) of the Spirit: Come and follow me! Imagine what God can do!

Peace, Pastors Sara & Paul VanDeBerg

Immanuel Choir:  Rehearses Wednesdays at 6:45 PM

CALLING ALL SINGERS!  Rehearsals  for our Immanuel Choir will begin promptly at 6:45 PM on Wednesday nights  and will feature several different genres of music. Our goal is to create an environment where we encourage fellowship and the further development of your musicianship skills. I am excited to see what great music we can make! No experience is needed and rehearsals are not mandatory, as I know schedules are busy during the summer months. Please join us as we praise God and share our gifts with Immanuel. God Bless!
The Bells of Immanuel

If you're thinking of ringing, we NEED you!  Rehearsals start at 9:20am to 10am, and if you want to attend the 9:45 service you may leave.  Immanuel's celebrated handbell choir rings recognizable church music, including traditional repertoire, classical sacred literature, and more recent compositions.  The Bells of Immanuel rehearse on Sundays from 9:15-10:00AM downstairs in the music room.  No musical training is necessary!!! If you can't commit to every Sunday, talk to Ellen, director, about being a bell substitute ringer! Contact her at ellen.hanson@aurora.org if you are interested or just show up for rehearsal.  She will show you how to ring and which part to read.

Mission Trip Details: This year we go to Oglala Lakota County (on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation), one of the most impoverished areas in the USA. The unemployment rate is around 85%, half of adults have diabetes due to poor nutrition, the suicide rate is the highest in the nation, and substance abuse is rampant. In spite of all of this, the Oyate Teca Project remains a beacon of hope in the community. We will partner with Oyate Teca to play a key role in their gardening program, which helps people learn how to grow and preserve their own food - fresh fruits and vegetables! The Oyate Teca project is one of the most successful programs of its kind due to partnerships with people like us.  We will also explore the rich heritage and history of the Oglala Lakota people. Students can plan on spending some time in the Badlands and heading into the Black Hills.  Our 'mission' is to show our Lakota friends what the love of God is supposed to look and feel like. It's also to serve in Jesus' name, bringing important resources into an impoverished community and building friendships with people who have largely experienced alienation from the church.

Students can reserve their spot by completing the
registration and waiver (Available in church office)
and paying a $100 deposit.

Questions can be sent to Pr. Paul - pastorpaul@immanuellg.org

"Stitchin' for Kids"

The Wednesday morning quilters have a special project in the works.  They will be making fleece blankets for the children who come to The Tree House (Children's Advocacy Center, Elkhorn) due to suspected physical or sexual abuse and/or neglect.  Age range is anywhere from a couple weeks old to 17 years of age.  This can be a traumatic experience for these precious souls and the Tree House staff has found that if they are able to give them a "Lovie" when they arrive, or leave, it helps calm and sooth the children while the process is taking place.   If you would like to help with this worthwhile endeavor, many hands make the project go quickly besides the fact that it's fun!  Contact Jackie Kuehl for more information.   Another way to be involved is to give a monetary donation to help offset the cost of each blanket ($20 per blanket).  Donations can be placed in an envelope with "Stitching for Kids" on the outside and left with Bethany in the church office.  If you prefer to write a check, make it out to Immanuel Lutheran Church and put "Stitchin' for Kids" on the memo line.   The Wednesday morning quilters plan to have this as an ongoing project.  Last year 300+ children were served at the Tree House...that is a lot of blankets. Thank you for whatever you can do to be of assistance to these children.

Care Team

Newcomers welcome to join and be a part of this amazing team!  This is an important time for us to share and communicate about the shut-in members we are caring for.  Please contact Kristin Larkin at 414-491-1969 or email her  at  kristinlarkin@yahoo.com  for more info.  Also, if you have names of members who have indicated they would be in need of a visit from the Care Team please let Kristin or Bethany know and they will be added to the list of people enjoying visits from this wonderful ministry.

Tree House

April is Child Abuse  Prevention Month

Often times we have no idea what sort of numbers  of children are directed in our county alone.

In 2017:
  • Over 520 children and their families walked through the doors of the Tree House to receive at least one or  multiple services
  • Over 1200 children and families were referred to the Children's Advocacy Center housed within the Tree House and operated by Children's Hospital of Wisconsin for forensic interviews, physical examination and therapy.
  • Allegation of Maltreatment cases include:  238-Sexual Assault; 23-Child Pornography; 1- Human Trafficking;     119 - Physical Abuses; 109 - Neglect/Drug Endangered Children; 86-Domestic Violence; 24 - Bullying; 14 - Emotional Abuse; 86-Child Witnesses.  Overwhelming, isn't it!
During the Month of April, the Walworth County Health and Human Services and the Tree House launched a campaign  to bring awareness to child maltreatment.  As you travel throughout the county, you will see billboards that read, " #Join Hands Challenge".  If you check the Join Hands for Kids Facebook page, you will see a photo of the hands of  our Immanuel Mission Trip Kids, indicating support for the numerous ways our communities, families, faith groups, schools and organizations play in protecting our precious children and strengthening families.

*Please contact Evie Schulz if you are interested in ways you can volunteer, donate, serve.

+     A BIG THANK YOU to all the men and youth that helped with this years Easter Breakfast. We were able to raise $300 for the youth. We feed over 300 people this year. Thank you, Rick Ruby

+     We are SO THANKFUL to Immanuel for the incredible support and love shown toward the South Dakota Mission Trip at the April 15 Spaghetti Dinner/Dessert Auction. The weather was awful, but the event was so sweet (pun intended!). The generosity we witnessed was truly overwhelming. We received over $13,000 in support. This will give each student $400 toward their tuition and help us to cover several trip costs, including materials for the projects we will be working on. This is so much more than we ever imagined!!! THANK YOU!!!
THANK YOU! Next Door Pub for the food, Bakers and Auction item donors (especially Sean Payne!!), Auctioneer Jim Gaugert, Lynn Gerlitz and Rich McWherter for running the kitchen, Jeri Gaugert for the accounting, and to all of Immanuel for raising over $13,000 in support of our Mission to South Dakota!

+     Dear Immanuel Friends:  We at the Tree House wish to extend our most sincere thanks for the support you have given and continue to give - from the supply of cuddly handmade blankets each child who visits The Tree House gets to choose from - for the snacks donated throughout the year  - for volunteering at and financial supporting our fundraisers - and helping at the facility with various hands on projects. There is no way we can fully express our gratitude.  Your continued partnership with us insures the abused, neglected and drug endangered children in our county will be given every available chance to have a dedicated team working on their behalf.

+     A BIG thank you to pastors Paul and Sara on their first Easter with Immanuel with such a wonderful Easter message! Thank you to all the people to participated in the dramas and for the Lenten speakers for stepping up and sharing their stories.
