News from American Greyhound recapping April and looking forward to May.

April Rescue Results
In April we had 9 dogs enter TGIE and 3 dogs go straight into foster care. 1 dog rescued from the meat trade in China - Pang Pang the charmer. we had 19 adoptions.

This makes our year-to-date totals 58 adoptions, 56 AG rescues, and 3 hauled for other groups.
April Adoptions Bring May Fosters

Racing greyhounds always need American Greyhound. May of 2017 is no exception! We are going to be bringing a group of dogs into foster care on May 20th and need you.  American Greyhound covers all veterinary costs, provides a kennel, any other supplies, and all necessary medication for your foster. We ask you to supply food, a roof over their head, and lots of love.

Fostering doesn't have to be a long-term commitment; fostering is whatever kind of commitment YOU want it to be. You can foster one hound or you can be a continuous foster. Of course, if you ask me, I think after saving one life, you'll be hooked and want to make sure you are a part of saving as many as possible! If you've adopted a greyhound and have experienced their unconditional love and affection, that means a foster home stepped up for your hound and saved their life. Your hound is here because of a foster home.

To learn more or ask any questions about how to get started and what to expect. I've included a picture of my first greyhound. Her racing name was JS Diet Pepsea and we call her Sophie. She will be 10 years old in August and without her foster family, she wouldn't have came into our lives and introduced us to the wonderful breed and also to the amazing people that are part of American Greyhound.  If you'd like to be the one to start that relationship for a future adopter, please e-mail me at foster@americangreyhound.org

AG Window Stickers

A couple years ago, we were regularly sending out the message that we had window stickers available and anyone interested need only contact Jeff Coggins, with your name and address, and he'd get you one out in the mail shortly.

Unfortunately, our sticker supply ran low and we were tardy in replenishing it.  Until now.  We have recently received a new order of stickers and they are just ready to be plastered on the back of our supporters windows to help us spread the word about our dogs, our organization, and how, together, we can make life better for these long-legged dogs.

If you would like one for your car, (or more if you have more cars in need of one of these in the back window) just send your name and address to president@americangreyhound.org and we'll get them out in the mail post haste (quickly).

Back in Black

A couple weeks ago, we were very excited to welcome our 2 nd annual "Back in Black" class into TGIE (The Greyhound Inmate Experience).  And, on June 22 nd  when they graduate, you'll have the opportunity to give one of these beautiful black pups a home!
Grey Sitting Program

Welcome and Congratulations to all our new adoptors!  In case you don't know, American Greyhound has a small group of volunteers who will sit for your Greyhound while you're away.  That's right - while you're away on vacation, or here on staycation, your Greyhound can be, too.  They will stay with a Grey-savvy sitter who will treat your hound like one of their own.  To get the process started, all you have to do is contact me as soon as soon as you know the dates of when you will need a sitter.  I'll need to know a few other things about your Grey, but will e-mail you back with the questions.  I'll then send a note to my sitters (without your name, and with your Grey's name in code, for privacy reasons), and wait for replies from whomever is able to take the sitting assignment.  When I have a volunteer or two, I'll connect you and let you work out the details.  You can go away knowing your hound is in a comfortable, loving, home environment.  Did I mention this is a free service?  Most of our sitters graciously accept small tokens of appreciation (a gift or cash), but my personal favorite is reciprocating sitting services.  On that note, if you'd like to be a sitter, e-mail me your name, city/state, how many Greys you have, and whether you have other pets or kids.  I'll add you to the sitter list and you can start taking assignments if one comes up that fits your schedule.

Happy hounds make for happy travelers.  I hope to hear from you!
