Blackstone Library Closures
Sunday, May 27 & Monday, May 28
The Blackstone Library will be closed on Sunday, May 27 and Monday, May 28 in observance of Memorial Day. The Library will re-open on Tuesday, May 29 at 9:00 a.m.
Please note that we'll be closed on Sundays through the summer until September 9.

Parent/Child Workshop For Babies to Age 3 Friday, May 4, 11, 18, and 25 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
 Come to the Blackstone Library for our Parent/Child Workshop. This series is a place where caregivers and their children, age 1 - 3, can meet, chat, share and play!
It's a place for toddlers to play with a variety of developmentally appropriate toys in a safe environment with other kids their own age.
It's a place where caregivers can meet informally with a variety of professionals that can answer any questions. It's not a sit down lecture. We like to call it...Chat and Learn.

Neighborhood Music School of New Haven Saturday, May 5 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
There's nothing like a live performance to demonstrate the power and beauty of classical music. Come hear your favorite piece and discover something new when the Neighborhood Music School's Suzuki Pianists perform works by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Schumann in the Blackstone Library auditorium. Friends of the Blackstone Library Lecture:
The History of Rock 'n Roll Tuesday, May 8 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Elvis. Jimi. The Stones... and the beat goes on. Music Professor Nicole Biamonte of McGill University talks about the history of Rock 'n Roll at the Blackstone Library. Her lecture will explore important musical figures, different styles of rock, and the various musical elements that help define them. Program is free, man.

Menunkatuck Audubon: Conserving the Nature of the Connecticut River Watershed Wednesday, May 9 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Patrick Comins, Director of Bird Conservation for Audubon Connecticut, will be on hand to talk about the protection of our beloved Connecticut River.
The Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge was established to conserve the abundance and diversity of native plants and animals and their habitats in the 7.2 million-acre Connecticut River watershed in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. From the sub-boreal forests of Vermont and New Hampshire to the globally significant tidal wetlands of the lower Connecticut River, the Conte Refuge works in partnership to conserve the places that make the Connecticut River Watershed special.
Patrick has been the Director of Bird Conservation since 2000 and works closely with Menunkatuck Audubon on many of the conservation projects. He is the chairman of the Friends of the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge.

Money, Power, and Politics with Ian Ayres Tuesday, May 22 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Ian Ayres, Yale Law School professor, lawyer, and economist presents an informative talk at the Blackstone Library. Professor Ayres has published nine books and more than 100 articles on a wide range of topics. In 2007, he published Super Crunchers: Why Thinking-By-Numbers Is the New Way to Be Smart. He received his B.A. (majoring in Russian studies and economics) and J.D. from Yale and his Ph.D. in economics from M.I.T. Program is free and open to the public.

The Branford Senior Center is hosting a fashion show with town police officers. Learn what to look for to confirm that someone really is a police officer and not pretending to be one when, and if, an officer comes to you door or stops your car.

A Playwrighting Group Monday, May 14 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Are you an actor or a playwright? Join us for the monthly gathering of New Plays at the Blackstone on the second Monday of every month. Our group has two primary goals: to nurture individual theater artists, and to develop new plays by local writers. These monthly meetings give playwrights the opportunity to hear their works read by local actors. New Plays at the Blackstone also produces staged readings for the benefit of local charities.
