Dear Friends of A Novel Experience,

This month we celebrate "The Makers" and welcome a delectable assortment of crafts for you to admire--and, collect. Objects fashioned from venerable trees, clay, paint and canvas--it's all here at the store for the month of May. And, why not? The Lower Piedmont of Georgia is bursting with organic growth and renewal--we know we've survived the winter when we see the bright green leaves of our pecan trees emerge.  We present the work of Bennie Evans, Fawne DeRosia, Dan Dunnahoo, and Brenda Fayard for May.  Please come to see--and do touch these remarkable pieces! (May we add Mother's Day is May 14th and these would make lovely, one-of-a-kind gifts for your mom?)

We've planned a diverse menu of events for May beginning with our favorite classical guitarist, Ryan Cummings who returns on Friday, May 12th at 7:00 p.m. And, we're bringing back "Women of a Certain Age" for a program on financial literacy presented by Amy Dunham. The book club selections are arresting and sure to prompt great discussions--especially due to our hometown favorite author Gwen Roland joining us at the Brown Bag meeting where we're reading "Postmark Bayou Chene". And, stay tuned for the announcement of photographers who have just been selected for our first "Zebulon Show" in June--our esteemed juror, Sara Keith of the Atlanta School of Photography has just made her picks from a grand collection of entries. The Living Room Conversations are thriving and we're going to talk next on the first Sunday of June--topic to be announced. An observation: The last three discussions have resulted in an extraordinary recognition of our common values--we may diverge on specifics but there has been a surprising level of agreement--so far, we've talked about American values, health care, and the media. Try doing one--check out The Living Room Conversation website for the how-tos for anyone who wants to do their own--complete with topics, questions, and great tips.

We loved seeing many of you on Independent Bookstore Day on April 29th--and congrats to Chris Palmer who won our $50 gift certificate (now he can't say he's never won anything...:) It was great celebrating with you and sharing the sense of community and commitment that "buying local" is all about--may we all continue to support our very own places and people. Thanks, all! And, if you are in town on Mondays, please drop by to welcome our newest sales associate Seyward--she can talk books and horses with enthusiasm and elan!

And, as always, come on by and tell us what you're reading...Shaunasee has a new favorite, The Black Witch, and Chris has added Francis Fukuyama's Political Order and Political Decay to her "must read (by the end of the decade) pile (...and the latest Jack Reacher collection of short stories)! Thanks for supporting the store--we couldn't do it without you!
