Webinar: Understanding the Connection Between Adoption and Trauma

The Evan P. Donaldson Adoption Institute estimates 100 million Americans are touched in some way by adoption. That is 1 in every 6 people. Adopted individuals and their families are more likely to utilize mental health services than the general

population. However, mental health professionals typically do not receive adoption related training. This workshop will address adoption and trauma in light of new research about how the brain develops and adapts to its environment.

When: Wednesday, May 23, 2018 | 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Presenter: Leonette Boiarski, LCSW, ACSW

Research Exchange Committee Seeking Members

The NASW-PA Chapter is in process of forming a Research Exchange Committee co-chaired by Phyllis Black, PhD, ACSW, LSW, Marywood University, Lehigh Valley campus, and Kathleen Boland, PhD, LCSW, ACSW, Cedar Crest College. The purpose is to disseminate research findings relevant to NASW-PA membership and to connect researchers to respond to regional research needs. The recognition that useful research is ongoing in social service agencies and social work education programs that is not accessible to NASW-PA members prompted the formation of this Committee. Practitioners and faculty members are invited to join this Committee to facilitate improved linkage between research and practice. We encourage you to volunteer.

For those interested in serving on this committee, contact the NASW-PA office at 717-232-4125.

Sample Social Media Policies for LCSWs in Private Practice

Clinical social workers who use social media in their private practice should develop a social media policy to inform patients how social media will be used in the therapeutic relationship. Recognizing that private practices are different in the way services are provided, the social media policy in this document serves as an example to assist private practitioners in developing a policy that may meet the needs of their practice.
