Jay Love: Donor Retention
Current Rates are Plummeting! What Can Every Fundraiser Do to Reverse the Trend!  Donor retention can be a baffling problem. Listen as Jay walks us through The Fundraising Effectiveness Project report commissioned by AFP and the Urban Institute. The dismal news in this report can and should be an eye opener for every non-profit engaged in fundraising.

We will focus on what can be done about retaining donors based on the principles of Dr. Adrian Sargeant, the world renowned authority on building donor retention and donor loyalty. Dr. Sargeant’s principles are based upon years of research conducted in the sector and can be used by any organization whether you are a one person shop or a large department. We will show examples of his principles in action via various technology tools. The results can be astounding when put into daily use.

In this session, he will offer his insights and thoughts on the state of US public policy regarding philanthropy and fundraising; and, on the trends that can have the greatest impact on our work as fundraising professionals.

AFP Monterey Bay's 2017 Mentorship Program

Our AFP Monterey Bay Chapter offers members an exciting opportunity to transform their fundraising careers through its Mentorship Program. The Mentorship Program formalizes a mentoring relationship in a structured program that offers networking opportunities and one-on-one coaching sessions with experts in the field. Our Mentors provide their mentees with an experienced friend in who is there to help in any number of situations.

“I have truly grown as a fundraising and development professional in a short period of time. My mentor was spectacular and I can’t thank her enough for sharing her wisdom and time with me." -2015 Mentee

The goals of the Mentorship Program include:

  • To strengthen the skills of the Mentee and support professional and career development by identifying and working on specific areas of his or her practice.

  • To enhance the professional abilities of participating Mentors through their efforts in guiding and coaching.

  • To foster professional relationships between seasoned development professionals and those newer to the field.

  • To provide mid-level professionals with the opportunity to expand their skill set to new areas of development.

How to Participate:

Mentors and Mentees are asked to commit approximately one hour per month for a six month period, as they work together on key issues that are important to the Mentee’s success and the success of the organization they serve. The location of our workshops will be determined based on locations of our mentors and mentees.

How to Apply
