Nebraska International Bird Month is May and we are looking for individuals, schools, organizations, and groups that either; have a birding event scheduled during May, plan to host a birding event during May, or would like to plan a birding event during May. These events can be in any community across Nebraska, in any region, or area of the state. May is a time to celebrate birds and bird migration, and enjoy their wonders.
From Lindsay Rogers:
I just wanted to remind you that Nebraska Bird Month will again be celebrated throughout the month of May. I am hoping your organization can schedule a bird-related event sometime during the month. These events do not need to be big, just something small to celebrate birds - a 1-hour bird walk, a feeding-the-birds class, or birds and bikes. Many organizations use a standing event (Wednesday pre-school classes, Saturday with a Naturalist, etc.) and put a bird focus on the May session.
If you are able (or already have) planned a bird-related event sometime in May, we would appreciate you taking the time to list your event on our website. You can enter your event details here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2017NBM
To help support your event, the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission has developed several free resources that you can request:
-
"Birdology: A Kid's Booklet About Birds"
-
Bird tattoos
-
"Common Birds of Nebraska" pamphlet
-
"Simple Things to Help Birds" pamphlet
-
Sticker sheets of Nebraska birds (coming soon)
-
Silicone bird-buddy bracelet (coming soon)
I will be sending out an e-mail in a few weeks to all organizations who have registered their events on the website seeking their requests for resources.
Working together we can make Nebraska bird Month 2017 a success. I hope you will consider hosting a bird-related event in May!
Please let me know if you have any questions... I look forward to working with you!
Thanks!
Lindsay
