The ancient technique of cupping massage has made its way to Samyama Yoga Center. This form of massage combines Swedish techniques with suction cups to facilitate release within tissues. The result is similar to a deep tissue massage. Unlike deep tissue the suction cups do not trigger a pain response in the body, making it a great choice for those looking to receive deep work without the potential for discomfort.
Cupping massage also works on the lymphatic system by supporting the movement of lymph throughout the body. This makes cupping massage an ideal pre or post-operative therapy.
As lymphatic fluids are brought to the surface during the treatment, temporary pigmentation may appear on the skin. These marks indicate areas that require additional attention that could take the form of concentrated stretching (asana!), further cupping massage or perhaps another massage modality. Cupping massage marks are a great tool for a therapist to know where to work next. These marks may last a few hours to a few days depending on the intensity of the stagnation.
