Trust issues
Phelps tells students to rely on what they've learned

Remaining true to yourself and trusting in what Culver has taught you was the advice Charlie Phelps '08 gave to the Class of 2012 during his speech over Alumni Reunion Weekend.

As Cadet Captain at the United States Military Academy, Phelps told students that Culver provided a solid base for him to succeed at West Point.

Fortner to serve internship in India

Caitlynn Fortner '13 will spend eight weeks in India this summer serving an internship with a multinational seed company. Her internship will focus on helping solve hunger issues in the region.

The internship is funded through the World Food Prize, which is sponsored by the John Ruan '61 family. Read the full story here

Hunger issues were also discussed during a joint session of the Global Studies Institute and Leadership Committee for Africa. Health official Davis Omanyo talked about the ties between hunger and women's property rights during the session. Read about his comments
 
North American champs
Lacrosse team finishes season with a bang

The CMA Prep lacrosse team finished its season with two big wins over Hill Academy and Brother Rice to capture the North American Lacrosse Invitational, a tournament designed to attract the top teams from the Midwest and Canada.

Now, the CMA rugby team is making its first trip to the state tournament on Memorial Day and the CGA lacrosse team will be heading for its annual trip to the state final four on Friday, June 1. Read about all three teams here

Sophomore qualifies for elite math camp
Jingyi-Zhao
Jingyi Zhao '14 is one of just 56 students nationally who were selected to attend the Mathematical Olympiad Program at the University of Nebraska this summer.

She earned her way by taking a two-day, nine-hour exam consisting of six problems covering multiple math disciplines.

Zhao was selected as one of the top 10 girls in the nation and will be competing for a spot on the all-girls team that will compete in her native China in August or in Europe during April 2013. Read more

Students offer business plans
Miclot-winners
Seven groups of student entrepreneurs offered their business plans before a panel of judges as part of the Miclot Business Plan Competition, which is sponsored by The Ron Rubin School for the Entrepreneur.

The winners were VidBid, an online auction serve that would allow sellers to upload videos of their items to help show the product and provide instructions on how to use it. Click to read more
