I recall a professor at Colorado College being quoted in the Gazette saying that "He (Bach) is going to set many precedents about how the new strong mayor of Colorado Springs will operate". It saddens me to see that statement actually become reality today as we received word that Mayor Bach "will not be signing proclamations such as (we) requested".
During Bach's inauguration he spoke of focusing on downtown, "making it the heart of the community again, as it should be." It doesn't surprise me that this lack of support comes as the Pride Center begins it's fundraising drive to move our Walk In Center aka The Equality Center to the downtown area. Hopefully just a block from City Hall.
As the Colorado Springs Pride Center increases our intense push for equality in Colorado Springs, we can't help but focus on the following:
- Barack Hussein Obama II the 44th and current President of the United States says - YES
- Lesbian, Gay Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month, 2011 - A Proclamation - Signed by the President
- John Wright Hickenlooper the 42nd and current Governor of the State of Colorado says - YES
- Colorado Springs GLBTA Community Awards Day, 2011 - A Proclamation - Signed By the Governor
- Steve Bach the 1st and current Strong Mayor of Colorado Springs says - NO
"We will have some long days getting through these times, but we will get there and we will do it together," Yes Mr. Mayor, we agree with what you said. We do have some long days ahead and we will get there together. We The People... We the Gay People, Lesbian People, Transgender People and Bisexual People of Colorado Springs are watching, listening and continuing to work on bringing equality to our fine city. Nothing More, Nothing Less, Just Equal!
