Please prepare now for Hurricane Season and avoid the headache - or worse - heartache later.
There is no better time than the present to prepare for the 2018 Hurricane Season.
A single storm can cause more than just dollars in damages. It can cost human lives. We know from experience that people are more likely to be safer and have the ability to recover more quickly when they are properly prepared.
I am also pleased to announce that we are preparing to host (Palmetto Bay's 9th - per staff) Hurricane Preparedness Workshop on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Our special guest speaker will be Peabody and Emmy award-winning Meteorologist and Hurricane Specialist Bryan Norcross.
I have provided you with links below [as well as posted on my blog (CLICK HERE) for the resource links or (CLICK HERE) to view past posts relative to Disaster Preparedness)]. You should have your disaster preparedness kit and have a plan to keep your family safe. Is your insurance coverage adequate? Those living near the coast should be familiar with the applicable evacuation routes. Everyone needs to take personal responsibility for yourself, your family and your pets. By making proper preparations, you will allow the first responders to focus on helping the most vulnerable residents.
I am proud of the efforts of Team Palmetto Bay and the preparations through the administration, Manager Ed Silva and the team. Our Village Policing Unit, Public Services, Parks, Code Enforcement, Building and Permitting all have important roles to play. Our Palmetto Bay disaster teams are active before, during and after storms.
You can count on me to shelter in place and be ready to immediately participate in post storm activity.
Note that Palmetto Bay is part of Miami-Dade County and participates in their Emergency Management operations. I have been notified that voluntary evacuation orders may be issued by the County as early as Wednesday, 9/6. If these voluntary evacuation orders are issued for Palmetto Bay, and if you decide to evacuate, you may prefer to relocate to friends or family located safely outside the evacuation areas.
