Renovation Updates
Our third phase of renovations is now complete with new heating/air conditioning units and new sliding windows. This includes the Day Rooms of the Evergreen and Abernethy.

The new lighting is underway!
Again, we appreciate all of your patience through this transition period.
The gardens in the back courtyard are progressing on schedule and we may be able to open this space early! We will host a ribbon-cutting to signify the official opening. Please watch for notices! We look forward to using this space like an outdoor room and will enjoy it all season long.
Hydration Stations

Please remember to stay hydrated, especially during this warmer weather.

For your convenience, hydration stations are available throughout the Health Center.

You can find a dispenser in the following locations:

  • Main Lobby
  • Abernethy
  • Atwater
  • Evergreen Way

CNAs Complete Alzheimer's & Dementia Certification

McLean CNAs Susie Cody, Lola Mitchell, Sandy Cochran and Leonorilda Ocampo (not pictured) celebrate their completion of a full day, comprehensive dementia education course, along with Lisa Clark, VP and Administrator of McLean Health Center. This certification reflects their commitment to cutting edge trends and advancing their skills and knowledge in the field of dementia - and is just one more example of how McLean employees are dedicated to the well-being of our residents with memory loss.

Bears in the Neighborhood

With our campus situated in the natural setting of the woods, we are becoming accustomed to seeing all kinds of wildlife, including black bears and bobcats.
If you see them walking around campus, there is no reason to  become alarmed or to make any phone calls.

Calmly keep your distance and remember:

  • Do not feed them (all ground level bird feeders on campus have been removed and can be put back up in December)
  • Do not try to touch them
  • Do not try to chase them away
  • Do not try to take close up pictures
Our staff and visitors should take extra precaution to make sure all exterior doors are closed. Please also take the extra step to lock your car doors.
Thank you and enjoy watching them!

Annual McLean Golf Tournament
The 28th McLean Golf Tournament and Auction will be held on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Hop Meadow Country Club.
All monies raised by the tournament and auction go directly to support the McLean Home Care & Hospice Program.  McLean provides quality of life at the end of life to Hospice patients and their loved ones.  The hospice staff provides specialized knowledge of medical care and pain management with the goal to improve quality of end-of-life care, while Hospice volunteers provide additional companionship, friendship, socialization and support.
There are many ways you can support this worthy cause.  You can be a sponsor, a golfer, a dinner attendee, an auction donor, or an auction participant.  Information regarding the online auction will be included in the August newsletter.

From the Development Office
"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom."
~ Marcel Proust
Literally, philanthropy also makes our gardens grow .  Many families and friends of McLean have been coming forward to help make the courtyard the beautiful gathering place it is becoming.  Throughout the next two years improvements and additions will continue to be made to this living area for everyone to enjoy.
For more information on the courtyard or to discuss giving opportunities please contact me at 860.658.3702, V

McLean Auxiliary Update

The McLean Auxiliary held their Annual Meeting and Strawberry Festival on June 4th and awarded $16,600 in grants to McLean. McLean staff accepted these grants for: Patient Personal Needs, Comfort Bags, Megapulse Shortwave Diathermy System , sun baskets and supplies for the new courtyard, music and entertainment programs, ceramic supplies, flowers for resident arranging, mobility sheets for home care patients, emergency preparedness bags, wheelchair cushions, aquarium, books for reminiscing, and another recliner for the post-acute unit.
The group also awarded two scholarships at time. Natalie Muller, a Certified Nursing Assistant at McLean, was the recipient of the annual $1,500 scholarship. This scholarship is awarded each year to an employee, or a child of an employee, who will be attending college in the fall to pursue a career in a health care related field.  Natalie is pursuing a BS degree in Allied Health at the University of Connecticut. Dylan Teixeira received the $500 Merit Scholarship in memory of past Auxiliary member and President, Jane Schlichter. Dylan has worked as a Dietary employee at McLean for two years and is pursuing a degree in nursing at Central Connecticut State University.
