The True Spirit of Giving
Thank you for all of those who have supported the Dennis family (Bridget (Liette) and Bret class of '98) with your love, prayers, and support for their 18-month-old son, Ryan. In June 2014, Ryan was born without the ability to create any T-cells, a vital cell needed in the immune system to fight off any type of infection. Ryan was diagnosed with SCID (Severe Combined Immunodeficiency), a rare, life-threatening genetic condition, and the only known cure is a bone marrow transplant.

After Ryan's diagnosis, the Dennis family had to begin living in complete isolation in order to keep Ryan free from illness before his transplant.  His siblings and parents were not suitable bone marrow matches, but after months of searching, a perfect match was found through the Be the Match registry. On January 21, 2015, Ryan received his Bone Marrow Transplant, and on the 9 month anniversary of the transplant, the Dennis family heard the words they longed to hear from the doctors-  "Ryan has been CURED of SCID."  The family is still living at home in partial isolation with Ryan while his new immune system develops further.

Throughout Ryan's health journey, he has received many different blood products from kind strangers who donated through Hoxworth. From the time that he was three weeks old, he received IVIG (antibodies collected from the plasma of over one thousand donors) to give him extra protection against viruses. He also received numerous blood and platelet transfusions after his transplant. Without these donations, Ryan's transplant recovery would not have been as successful. Now, Ryan and his family would like to help other children and adults in need of these life saving blood, platelet, and plasma donations.

Please save the date of  January 29, 2016, from 2-7 pm at McNicholas High School  for the Hoxworth Blood Donation in honor of  Ryan  Dennis and his family.  Be the Match will also be attending the event.

Mike Kallaher Giving Back To McNicholas

Mike Kallaher, McNicholas Class of 1957, recently provided a great gift to McNicholas High School. Over many years, Mike has been a staunch supporter of the mathematics department with annual gifts directed to be utilized to enhance the department's programs. Mike understands that the dedication of the faculty at McNicholas, as well as the sacrifices made by his parents, in order for him to receive a quality, faith-based education were key contributing factors in the great success he has in the education field. Today, Mike is a professor of mathematics at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.

In recognition of this love and support from others, Mike and his family have made a substantial gift to the McNicholas Endowment Fund. A major portion of the earnings from this tremendous gift will be designated for support to the mathematics department. In Mike's words: " I want to give back to McNick for the excellent education I received, and at the same time, honor my parents for their support of my education and that of my siblings."

All of us at McNicholas want to thank the Kallaher family for their gift that will make a difference for our current students, as well as, future Rockets. If you would also like provide a gift to the McNicholas Endowment Fund, please contact Mark Doran, Director of Development, at [email protected], or (513)-231-3500, ext. 5141.

Your Legacy is
McNicholas High School's
 F
uture
Many alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of McNicholas High School have shown a tremendous interest in discussing the different ways they could leave a legacy gift to the school that would benefit its future. Obviously, they would also like to provide these gifts to McNicholas in a way that is also the most beneficial for their estate planning.  With these objectives in mind, the Alumni Association will host an  Estate Planning Seminar  for members of the McNicholas community  on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at 6:30 p.m.  at McNicholas High School.  Our session will be conducted by members of the McNicholas family exclusively for members of the McNicholas family. Attorney Bill Sherman, '86, President of Robbins, Kelly, Patterson, and Tucker Law Firm, and Paul Staubach C.P.A & C.F.P. of Foster & Motley, proud father of four graduates and a current student, will conduct our session.

There is no charge for this session, and it will be both a great information exchange and chance to reconnect for all involved. Please RSVP to Mark Doran, Director of Development at  [email protected] or  513.231.3500 ext. 5141.

Coloring the School; McNick Opens New Art Gallery
To the students at McNicholas High School, the library is not only a place to find new reading material but also a place to meet friends before school, study at lunch, and wait for their parents after school. On Nov. 18, McNicholas added a new feature: an art gallery. After the books were cleared out from the upper floor of the library, librarian Anne Jones came up with the idea of displaying students' artworks. When Jones suggested the gallery to Art Department Chair Mel Gaskins, she loved the idea.

McNick at Night
McNicholas High School will be hosting its 18th annual McNick at Night event on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Norlyn Manor in Batavia. This event is our largest fundraiser, and it helps to support our school in many ways that tuition alone cannot cover. The evening includes an open bar, an elegant buffet dinner, games, silent and live auctions, and entertainment. The auction accounts for a significant portion of the event proceeds and is led by a professional auctioneer. While we rely heavily on the business community to donate items for the auction, we also count on the support of the McNicholas family and individuals like you, our dedicated parents, alumni, and friends.

Please consider donating an item to include in the auction. There will be a receptive audience at McNick at Night looking forward to bidding on items like tickets to sporting or entertainment events, a vacation home rental, restaurant gift cards, jewelry, or anything in between! If you are unsure what to donate we do have a wish list. If you know waht you would like to donate, please complete the   Auction Donation Form and return to the Development Office by February 28.  Please contact Annette McHugh at 513-619-5814 or  [email protected] if you have any questions.

Annual Fund
This time of year is an extremely important time of year for McNicholas High School. The 2015-2016 Annual Fund has begun. By now, you should have received the brochure on this year's Annual Fund. A successful Annual Fund is critical to the success of McNicholas High School, as it helps us to "close the gap" between the actual cost to provide a quality faith-based education to our students and the amount of revenue we receive in tuition.

We have made a major change to the Annual Fund this year. You are now able to "support your passion" and designate your gift to support any of the following five areas:
--Most Critical Need
--Tuition Assistance
--Athletics
--Fine and Performing Arts
--Facilities

As we approach the end of the calendar year, please also remember all donations to the McNicholas Annual Fund are tax deductible. You can support the Annual Fund by returning the forms attached to your Annual Fund brochure or by donating online.

Should you have any questions about the Annual Fund, or the other methods by which you can support McNicholas please contact  Mark Doran, Director of Development at (513)-231-3500 Ext. 5141.

We realize you and your family have many choices of how to spend your philanthropic dollars. A gift to McNicholas will be a great investment in the lives of both current and future McNicholas students.
