Class Reunions
Friday morning Mass in the Chapel

Friday Morning Mass is held at 7 a.m. each week when school is in session in our school's chapel, located in the Convent.

Your Legacy is
McNicholas High School's Future
Many alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of McNicholas High School have shown a tremendous interest in discussing the different ways they could leave a legacy gift to the school that would benefit its future. Obviously, they would also like to provide these gifts to McNicholas in a way that is also the most beneficial for their estate planning.  With these objectives in mind, the Alumni Association will host an  Estate Planning Seminar  for members of the McNicholas community  on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at 6:30 p.m.  at McNicholas High School.  Our session will be conducted by members of the McNicholas family exclusively for members of the McNicholas family. Attorney Bill Sherman, '86, President of Robbins, Kelly, Patterson, and Tucker Law Firm, and Paul Staubach C.P.A & C.F.P. of Foster & Motley, proud father of four graduates and a current student, will conduct our session.

There is no charge for this session, and it will be both a great information exchange and chance to reconnect for all involved. Please RSVP to Mark Doran, Director of Development at  [email protected] or  513.231.3500 ext. 5141.

Bill Sherman is a partner at Robbins, Kelly, Patterson & Tucker. He has been with the firm his entire career, starting as a law clerk in 1992 and is currently the President of the firm. Bill's practice is focused on estate and personal planning as well as estate and trust administration. Bill has an expertise in estate tax planning and business succession planning.

Paul joined Foster & Motley in November 2000 and became a shareholder in January 2005. He was with Grant Thornton, LLP, and specialized in their Financial Services Industry Group before becoming Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Fidelity Federal Saving Bank in December 1990. Paul served on Fidelity's Board of Directors from January 1994 to March 1999.
Alumni Helping Out
Thank you for all of those who have supported the Dennis family (Bridget (Liette) and Bret class of '98) with your love, prayers, and support for their 18-month-old son, Ryan. In June 2014, Ryan was born without the ability to create any T-cells, a vital cell needed in the immune system to fight off any type of infection. Ryan was diagnosed with SCID (Severe Combined Immunodeficiency), a rare, life-threatening genetic condition, and the only known cure is a bone marrow transplant.

After Ryan's diagnosis, the Dennis family had to begin living in complete isolation in order to keep Ryan free from illness before his transplant.  His siblings and parents were not suitable bone marrow matches, but after months of searching, a perfect match was found through the Be the Match registry. On January 21, 2015, Ryan received his Bone Marrow Transplant, and on the 9 month anniversary of the transplant, the Dennis family heard the words they longed to hear from the doctors-  "Ryan has been CURED of SCID."  The family is still living at home in partial isolation with Ryan while his new immune system develops further.

Throughout Ryan's health journey, he has received many different blood products from kind strangers who donated through Hoxworth. From the time that he was three weeks old, he received IVIG (antibodies collected from the plasma of over one thousand donors) to give him extra protection against viruses. He also received numerous blood and platelet transfusions after his transplant. Without these donations, Ryan's transplant recovery would not have been as successful. Now, Ryan and his family would like to help other children and adults in need of these life saving blood, platelet, and plasma donations.

Please save the date of  January 29, 2016, from 2-7 pm at McNicholas High School  for the Hoxworth Blood Donation in honor of  Ryan  Dennis and his family.  Be the Match will also be attending the event.

Giving Tuesday
Mardi Gras 2013
All alumni of McNicholas High School have experienced what at great tradition Madri Gras is at McNicholas High School. This great tradition of a Madri Gras celebration was brought to Cincinnati by the Sisters of St. Joseph when they started our school. Today that tradition is as strong as ever. All alumni have also experienced another great tradition the Sisters brought to Cincinnati which is a quality faith-based education. In today's economic environment, it is becoming harder for many families to provide this great tradition of a McNicholas education to their children.

For this reason, on February 9, 2016 McNicholas High School will be conducting a "Day of Giving' in honor of the Sisters of St. Joseph. All donations received that day will go to providing tuition assistance to families who need the help to have their children attend McNicholas High School. Over the next few weeks you will be receiving emails that will contain short videos that will bring back some memories to you and also explain the Day of Giving.

If you can assist us in our efforts, please go to the McNicholas web-site , at www.mcnhs.org and click on the Day of Giving icon. Your gift will go directly to helping young men and women experience the same great tradition of a McNicholas education.

McNick at Night
McNicholas High School will be hosting its 18th annual McNick at Night event on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Norlyn Manor in Batavia. This event is our largest fundraiser, and it helps to support our school in many ways that tuition alone cannot cover. The evening includes an open bar, an elegant buffet dinner, games, silent and live auctions, and entertainment. The auction accounts for a significant portion of the event proceeds and is led by a professional auctioneer. While we rely heavily on the business community to donate items for the auction, we also count on the support of the McNicholas family and individuals like you, our dedicated parents, alumni, and friends.

Please consider donating an item to include in the auction. There will be a receptive audience at McNick at Night looking forward to bidding on items like tickets to sporting or entertainment events, a vacation home rental, restaurant gift cards, jewelry, or anything in between! If you are unsure what to donate we do have a wish list. If you know waht you would like to donate, please complete the   Auction Donation Form and return to the Development Office by February 28.  Please contact Annette McHugh at 513-619-5814 or  [email protected] if you have any questions.

Laura Schmidt Landers '00 - Tells Her Story

Memories from McNick:
During my time at McNick I remember spending a great deal of time studying and playing music, but while that sounds boring, I really enjoyed it. I remember my classes being challenging but also having several teachers (especially Mr. Kirch and Ms. Combs) who were talented at making content I was not inherently interested in actually interesting and relevant.

On becoming a teacher:
I think from even my earliest days in school I always had an idea that I might become a teacher. I remember distinctly remember sitting in my 5th grade class critiquing my teacher's teaching: what he explained well, how I thought I might explain concepts better if I were teaching the class (the memory of which I now find quite funny).

I cannot remember any one person influencing my college and career decisions, but I remember having many opportunities for leadership (section leader in band, kairos leader, etc) and generally being encouraged in my endeavors, both of which likely helped build my skills and confidence to be successful in my current career path.

Further schooling and career path:
I graduated from Xavier with a degree in music and in education. Right after college I started teaching in West Clermont at Willowville Elementary. It was a great first job and it was so much work! Being a new teacher is ridiculously hard work anyway, but in addition to learning how to be a teacher, my students had many challenges for which I was unequipped.
