Fall lecture series will explore U.S. foreign policy and global affairs

This fall, join experts from Wisconsin universities and beyond for the Great Decisions lecture series, featuring a six-part exploration of U.S. foreign policy and global affairs.
The lectures run from
6:30-8 p.m., every Thursday, from Sept. 13 to Oct. 18, in the Rocca Room.
Optional briefing books are available for check out or purchase at the second-floor Research Desk. The program is co-sponsored by the American Association of University Women
Sheboygan.

Stay active this fall with free family workshops in the Children's Library in yoga, zumba, belly dancing and African dance.
The workshops will be held from
10-11 a.m. Saturdays, in the Story Garden,
and are recommended for ages 5 and up. Bring a mat for our yoga sessions.

A Big Year in Birding
This fall, the Sheboygan County Audubon Society and Mead Library will lead fun, educational activities and outings for all ages in preparation for the 2019 Big Year, which is an informal competition among birders to see how many species of birds they can see or hear within a single calendar year. Open to all ages.

Banned Books Week Book Talk
Celebrate your freedom to read during this guided book discussion about banned books and intellectual freedom with Joyce Latham, associate professor of Library and Information Sciences at UW-Milwaukee.
Featured books are “Huckleberry Finn,” “And Tango Makes Three,” and the “Harry Potter” series.
The event will be held from
6:30-7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 25, in the Rocca Room.

Baby & Me Storytime
Babies ages newborn to 24 months can bring their favorite adult to this interactive 20-minute early childhood literacy class, featuring simple books, lap bounces, songs, rhymes and fingerplays. Caregivers will learn ways to incorporate these practices into their child’s daily routine. Socialization and free play to follow,

Preschool Storytime
Kids ages 3-5, caregivers and younger siblings are invited to this interactive 30-minute early literacy class featuring books, music and movement, with a craft or literacy activity to follow,

Virtual Library Cards now available to SASD students
Sheboygan Area School District students can now use their student ID numbers to gain instant access to free streaming services, e-books, online classes and other digital resources offered at Mead Library.
These resources are available through the library’s new Virtual Library Card program and are accessible anywhere, at any time and never incur fines or late fees.

Mead adds library safety specialist
Mead has hired Dawn Klister to serve as the library's Community Resource and Public Safety Specialist.
This newly created position oversees the daily safety operations of the library and strives to create a safe and welcoming environment for all.
The library had previously contracted security operations out to a third party. By bringing this service in-house, the library aims to establish strong relationships with area social service agencies, law enforcement and other community organizations in order to effectively work with populations in need.
Klister has a background in law enforcement and security and previously worked at Safe Harbor and Lakeland University.
