Meet 16 More Nominees for Educator of the Year
The 43rd Kane County Educator of the Year Awards is less than three weeks away! The excitement is building and the ROE is hard at work preparing for the evening. These nominees lead, assist, and inspire each day they walk into their school and impact the lives of students, parents, colleagues, and their community.

Stay up to date with Educator of the Year by following the ROE on Facebook and Twitter and by using #EOTY43 and #leadassistinspire. Join us on May 4th at the Q Center in St. Charles for the 43rd annual Educator of the Year Awards. Tickets for the evening can be purchased through your local district office.

In the News: District 300's DREAM Academy
The ROE would like to recognize District 300 for the recent news coverage they have received about their DREAM Academy ALOP at Perry Elementary School!

DREAM (Dedicated Reinforcement, Engagement And Motivation) Academy is a unique program created by District 300 that supports at-risk students struggling with emotional trauma and behavioral issues. It is an Alternative Learning Opportunities Program that the ROE has partnered with District 300 in developing.

Is Your Licensure Up For Renewal This Year?
For the 2018 Renewal Period, ISBE is staggering renewal periods for educators according to licensure type due to a large amount of licenses up for renewal. The renewal periods are as follows:

  • Educators who hold a PEL and ELS-CTE license, with an expiration of 6/30/2018, may renew beginning April 1, 2018.
  • Educators who hold an ELS-PARA license, with an expiration of 6/30/2018, may renew beginning April 15, 2018.
  • Educators who hold a SUB license, with an expiration of 6/30/2018, may renew beginning May 1, 2018.

Upcoming Adaptive Schools Seminar in 2018-2019 School Year
New challenges require new and increased flexibility within schools and districts. School-wide improvements in student learning accrue from schools whose work culture are collaborative. The Adaptive Schools Seminar is a 4-session training for teachers, administrators, agency personnel, and staff developers who want to develop skills and strategies for creating a culture of collaboration.

The 4 sessions for the seminar are spread throughout the 2018-2019 school year on Sept. 13-14 and Feb. 7-8. The cost to attend all 4 sessions is $500.

The Progress Report: TED Talks
What's one way you use to spark discussions with you students or colleagues? TED Talks are a great way to find topics that are inspirational and that can impact your teaching in a positive way. This week's Progress Report details several ways TED Talks can be used to spark critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration.

The Progress Report is a collaborative discussion space for professional learning. Each post is written by Katie Algrim, the ROE's Director of Innovative Professional Learning. If there are any topics that you would like to see a post on,  please contact Katie Algrim.

2 Weeks Left For Student Scholarship Opportunity
The Kane Excellence in Education Partnership (KEEP) is currently accepting applications for it's Homeless/Unaccompanied Youth Scholarship ($500-$1,000). This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior who is a homeless or unaccompanied youth entering a post-secondary education program. 

Applications for the scholarship are due May 1st, 2018 and the recipient of the scholarship will be decided by June 1st, 2018. The application form can be found on the KEEP website.
