Josef Receiving His Award at the National Constitution Center

Meet Josef Junek, 2013 Best High School Short Film Winner

Josef is Constituting America's 2013 Best High School Short Film Winner! His winning short film was honored with a scholarship, a trip to Philadelphia, and an exclusive viewing of his short film at the National Constitution Center!

Josef shared a little about the makings of his short film with Constituting America:

"My short film started out as a school assignment. I'm home-schooled and my mom bought Juliette Turner's book, Our Constitution Rocks! to teach my siblings and me about the Constitution. She thought that making a film about the Constitution would be a great way to wrap up our school year!"

Getting To Know Josef

Josef Junek currently lives in Rosenberg, Texas with his parents, three sisters, one brother, numerous pets. He is home-schooled, which allows him and his brother plenty of time to experiment with making other short films. In addition to being a filmmaker, Josef is also a professional clown, unprofessional cartoonist, and has written one unpublished novel. He hopes to become a professional filmmaker someday, though would prefer not to work on anymore projects which require him to stand upside-down in a trashcan!

Josef Shares His Philadelphia Experience

Going to Philadelphia was a great experience! It was the first time I was able to fly in an airplane and the first time I went out of state!

My dad's boss also lives in our area. One day last week, the entire office of more than 50 people were gathered for a big meeting. My dad's boss had seen the article of me in the paper at breakfast and brought it to work. He began the meeting by making an announcement about the contest and passed around the article. Now they all know about Constituting America and the We the People 9.17 Contest!

I would have to say that my one of my favorite historical sites in Philadelphia was City Tavern. The actors did a good job portraying Hamilton and Jefferson. They argued about things which we'd just read about in school. Our text book talked a lot about the antagonistic relationship between Jefferson and Hamilton.

A couple of interesting facts I found where when you go to Ben Franklin's grave you toss a penny onto it and make a wish! I also learned on our tour, through Independence Hall, that many people came to John Adams' inauguration because they thought George Washington would bring in the army and take charge again, but they were sorely disappointed!

I'll definitely enter the contest next year and invite my friends too!
