News from VNoC & VIoC
Late July/Early August 2014

Dr. Jay McDonnell recently announced that Emily Mason Kennedy, DVM, has joined the staff of VNoC as a full-time associate veterinarian. Dr. Kennedy, who is trained in emergency medicine, has worked at the Anne Arundel Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Annapolis since 2010.

In making the announcement, Dr. McDonnell said, "Dr. Kennedy is an outstanding doctor and will be helping me with hospitalized patients, focusing on their in-hospital care so that they can get better, faster. She'll be also be serving as the point of contact with the primary care veterinarians and owners with hospitalized pets. I hope everyone will have the opportunity to meet her, at least on the phone; I know she'll be a terrific resource for our colleagues in primary care. She will not be seeing patients for any appointments and you can be assured that any patient that is cared for by VNoC is evaluated by me or another board certified neurologist."  MORE>>

The auditory canal is a complex series of structures that work together to provide the sense of hearing. Though hearing is the primary function it is a major player in the neurological system. Due to its position in the cranium and relation to several major nerves a myriad of symptoms can be associated with an auditory canal issue. These symptoms can include vestibular signs like head tilt and circling, facial paralysis and twitching, nystagmus, and hearing loss. MORE>>
