What's New At Connections

Nature can teach us many things if we take the time to observe and listen.  One of our therapists recently returned from a trip to the mountains of northern NH, bringing back many incredible pictures, and was struck by how nature survives in the most remarkable environments.  John Muir, arguably  America's most famous and influential naturalist and conservationist, said:

"Wonderful how completely everything in wild nature fits into us, as if truly part and parent of us.  The sun shines not on us, but in us.  The rivers flow not past, but through us, thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substance of our bodies, making them glide and sing."

The correlation that can be drawn between nature and our human bodies isn't hard to find.  T he earth's crust contains most of the mineral nutrients our body needs, and the chemical composition of a rock, such as granite, is strikingly similar to the composition of the human body.  The way humans and plants absorb food is similar. Both have highly developed immune systems.  Both humans and trees are made up primarily of water.   Both life forms work hard to maintain daily needs for the right balance of air, water and mineral nutrients to maintain good health.

These beautiful trees in NH's White Mountains found ways to survive on top of rock.  Their roots are a  testament to how much life adapts in order to not just sustain, but to grow.  Our bodies adapt to all kinds of stresses, many of which we can control -  whether it's lack of good nutrition, water, sleep, or exercise - we still manage to survive.

Yet we don't have to keep our own bodies in survival mode; we can provide all the elements needed to fully function and allow our body to reach its potential for health.   If we stop taking our body for granted and appreciate how hard it works, even when we create less-than-desirable conditions for functioning, we'll at least be doing everything we can to live a long and healthy life.

Here at MTC, we have lots of updates for you - the  Protégé  Program is back, one of your favorite therapists has returned, text message appointment confirmations are now available, and we have new products in the lobby created by some of our entrepreneurial therapists!  You'll also want to check out our specials of the month; maybe one of those will give you that incentive to take better care of yourself!

Shout-Outs
Occasionally we like to call your attention to other businesses we think are doing a great job servicing their customers.  This month, we have two:  Orange Theory Fitness and C Ponies.

Shea, Sally, and Melissa riding in Palma Sola Bay
If you haven't like our Facebook page yet, you missed the photos from a recent excursion to Palma Sola Bay where three MTC therapists went swimming with the ponies!  They had a blast and highly recommend this adventure!  You can watch videos and see much more information on the C Ponies website here.

Orange Theory Fitness is practically across the road (SR 70 @ Lena Road) from our office.  Both Shea and Nancy are members and love the class workouts that monitor your heart rate for maximum benefit.  Nancy believes those classes helped tremendously when she tackled several steep mountain hikes in NH last month!  If you decide to check them out, the first class is free.  You can find more information on their website.  Be sure to let them know we sent you!
Protege Program is Back!  Welcome to the newest member of the MTC Team!
It goes without saying, but we are VERY picky about who we want on our MTC Team.  Our current group of therapists is the best we've ever assembled - with a combined 85+ years of experience.  But experience isn't the ONLY quality we look for and some of our most requested therapists have less experience than others.  MTC therapists must also share our passion for learning, and dedication to you, our clients.

Oh...and yes, they have to have great hands!

Lisa Weingart, LMT
When we find just that right mix of talent, passion and work ethic, we feel very fortunate.  This month, we've re-opened the Protégé Program with Lisa Weingart, LMT.   Lisa graduated from Raphael's School of Beauty Culture in Boardman, Ohio with her diploma in Massotherapy and is a professional member of ABMP (Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals).

She is scheduled four days a week:
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Skin Care A (always) B (beautiful)  C (complexions)
The vast majority of people have a two-step approach to skincare : cleansing, moisturizing, repeat.  What lacks is a critical step in between and this month's ABC starts with E -------> exfoliation.

Exfoliation, when done correctly, gives skin its glow and freshness.  Exfoliants help to remove the top, dead layer of skin on the surface, exposing the brighter, smoother skin underneath.  It does NOT take an appreciable amount of time to do and in most cases should not be done every day.  If you are confused or a little intimidated about trying it or you have done it and it doesn't feel "right", hopefully, the following will help...

In Appreciation
We started this month's newsletter talking about nature and our connection to it.  Whether it's by the beaches or in the mountains, studies have shown that simply being in nature has many benefits.  Once we're clear from Hurricane Matthew and you're looking to improve your health, mental or physical, one way to do so is to get outside!
We highly recommend it!

Stay safe, everyone!
