This year, we have been celebrating Homespun's 50th anniversary! Through the years, we have helped untold numbers of aspiring players to improve their musical skills and, at the same time, have created a unique archive of roots music songs, styles and traditions. We are thankful to all of the magnificent musicians who have been on this mission with us.

Today, we are featuring three brilliant artists and their most popular Homespun lessons.

Mike Seeger

The late Mike Seeger devoted his life to singing, playing and documenting southern traditional mountain music. He toured throughout the world as a soloist and as a member of the vanguard old-time music group, the New Lost City Ramblers, of which he was a founding member.

Mike played a variety of traditional styles on banjo, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica, quills, lap dulcimer, autoharp and other instruments. He produced nearly 70 recordings and was nominated for six Grammy awards. We are proud to have worked with him on numerous Homespun projects.

"I had known and admired Mike since the earliest days of the folk revival and was always blown away by the depth of his knowledge and his mastery of his instruments. He continues to have an impact on players of traditional music everywhere." -  Happy Traum

Three DVD Set

Del Rey discovered blues when, as a teenager, she met bluesman Sam Chatmon. Her guitar playing combines country blues, stride piano, classic jazz and hillbilly boogie. Del plays concerts worldwide and presents a concert/lecture on women musicians called Women in American Music. She tours frequently with guitarist Steve James, plays ukulele with The Yes Yes Boys, and appears on Maria Muldaur's 2005 CD Sweet Lovin' Old Soul. Del's solo albums include X-Rey Guitar, Hot Sauce, Boogie Mysterioso and Del Rey:Live.

"I have worked with Del at several guitar camps and workshops throughout the country and have seen first-hand what a great teacher she is, which is why we asked her to be on Homespun. We recently performed together at a sold-out show at the venerable folk club Caffé Lena in Saratoga Springs, NY."Happy Traum

Paul Mehling

Paul ("Pazzo") Mehling has been a professional musician for over 30 years. He is the founder and lead guitarist of the Hot Club of San Francisco, a group dedicated to performing and recording Gypsy-Swing music. They have released nine CDs and have appeared at festivals throughout the world dedicated to Django Reinhardt and other jazz manouche musicians.

An accomplished multi-instrumentalist (guitar, violin, bass, plectrum and tenor banjo, mandolin), Paul has toured as a member of Dan Hicks' Acoustic Warriors, appearing on Austin City Limits and many other venues.  When not performing and recording with the Hot Club, Paul conducts clinics and private lessons, is a staff teacher for the Jazz Masters Workshops, is a contributing staff writer for Frets and Flatpicking Guitar magazines and has been awarded a citation for excellence by the International Jazz Educator's Conference. We've been delighted to have him as part of the  Homespun family for many years.
