Meet
the New Director: Dr. John "Jack" L. Ewing, Jr.
Dr. John "Jack" L. Ewing, Jr. has been named the new Executive
Director of Lake Junaluska Assembly Inc. Dr. Ewing will begin his
new duties on January 1st, 2011, and fills a position that is being
vacated by the retirement of Rev. Jimmy L. Carr. Ewing currently
serves as the Executive Director of the Foundation for Evangelism,
which is also based at Lake Junaluska, NC.
"The entire
Board of Directors is excited about the future and believes that
Jack brings a passion for Lake Junaluska and a background of
success that will move us forward in the future," commented Bishop
Larry Goodpaster, Board Chairperson for Lake Junaluska Assembly.
"We are also appreciative of the work of Jimmy Carr over the past
11 years. We know that Jack will be able to build on the work Jimmy
has begun."
"I am excited about the opportunity to build on the good work of
those that have gone before me. Lake Junaluska is a special place,
and together we will make it an even more special place for many
more people," said Ewing during a presentation to the Lake
Junaluska Board of Directors.
Dr. Ewing comes from a family of United Methodist pastors. His
father, maternal grandfather, father-in-law, grandfather-in-law,
sister-in-law, brother-in-law, daughter, and son-in-law were or are
United Methodist ministers. He has degrees from Asbury College
(1974), the University of Kentucky (1975), and the University of
Minnesota (1982). Ewing has served on the faculty of his alma mater
and South Dakota State University. He also served as president of
two United Methodist institutions of higher education: Dakota
Wesleyan University (1994-2000) and Mount Union College
(2000-2005).

Annual Appalachian Christmas celebrates the
season
 For 10 years, Lake Junaluska's Appalachian Christmas
has drawn crowds, celebrating the upcoming holiday and Christmas
season. With performances by the Lake Junaluska Singers, a
Christmas Craft Show, and special holiday performances by musicians
like Doc Watson, Carl Hurley, and the Cockman Family, Appalachian
Christmas at Lake Junaluska has something to offer everyone.
Ricky Skaggs, the
legendary, fourteen-time Grammy-award winning country and bluegrass
artist, will be performing Saturday, December 11, as part of the
Appalachian Christmas festivities. Skaggs and his talented family
will perform a "Skaggs Family Christmas," a well-loved show that
the entire family can enjoy.
Lake Junaluska's Appalachian Christmas weekend begins Friday,
December 10, at 7:30 p.m., with the first of two Lake Junaluska Singers'
concerts. Led by Dr. Melodie Galloway, the Singers will perform an
collection of holiday favorites as well as spiritual
selections.
 On
Saturday, December 11, events include the Christmas Craft Show from
8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and the second Lake Junaluska Singers'
performance at 2:30 p.m. The Skaggs Family Christmas concert will
conclude Appalachian Christmas at 8 p.m., with a special meet and
greet opportunity at 7 p.m.

Rush of Fools take the stage at Lake
Junaluska INFUSE 2011
Rush of Fools, a Birmingham-based
Christian band, will perform at Lake Junaluska New Year's MYP
INFUSE Ski celebration for youth December 31, 2010.
Part of
Ministries with Young People at Lake Junaluska's INFUSE New Year's
Weekend, December 31, 2010, through January 2, 2011, Rush of Fools
(on December 31 only) will share the stage with This is Luke and
Rev. Jasmine Smothers. Together, youth will be transformed by God
through vibrant praise and worship, unifying fellowship and
fun.
"Each weekend provides a new
opportunity for youth to grow closer to God and to enjoy fellowship
with other Christian youth," said Rev. Carolyn Poling, Director of
Ministries with Young People at Lake Junaluska. "It is our mission
to inspire and transform youth through Christ's message, and our
retreats also provide them with exciting opportunities to combine
