EVANS WEEKLY
Issue: #1
July 31, 2018

Dear 2018-2019 Panther Parents and Guardians,

We are so excited to begin another great school year!!  It feels like the summer was a bit short, but hopefully everyone is well-rested and ready to get started.  My summer took a bit of a turn when I tore my calf muscle on the FIRST DAY OF SUMMER...ugh!  Going on 7 weeks in a boot, but hey, we still made the most of it.  Gage ran some summer track and Payton enjoyed some much deserved downtime with friends and family.

My daughter has to report back to South Carolina this week (sad mommy moment) and my son is a Senior this year at North.  How is that possible?? Enjoy these middle school moments and memories, for these crucial years are gone in a flash.

Please pay special attention to this first newsletter because it has some very important news about registration, proof of residence, Meet the Teacher Night, our community picnic, and much more.  Scroll down to the "Evans Events" article and click on the link for the Calendar of Events.  If you have any questions about upcoming events, please don't hesitate to call the front office at 469-302-7100.

Within the next few days you will be receiving an email from MISD with a snap code and  instructions on how to complete your student's registration update.  It is important that you complete this in a timely manner as quickly as possible so that your student will be ready to start the school year!

For those of you who haven't viewed your HAC account in awhile, you are still able to see STAAR results from last year.  When you go into your HAC account, you will receive a Unique code.  Once you have this code, you can click here to get directly to the TEA website and access scores and other STAAR information and updates.

There are many reasons I am excited for the upcoming year, but my favorite reason is that our incoming 8th grade group is my first group of kiddos to have as the proud Principal of Evans.  It has been incredible seeing them grow from young pups to the big 8th graders they have become.  I can't wait to see what the year has in store for all of our amazing Panthers.

Go Panthers!

      EVANS PTO
Hello Evans Families!
The Evans PTO would like to welcome you for a very exciting 2018-2019 school year. Last year, the PTO:
*       Awarded $3000 in teacher grants
*       Sponsored the IMPACT carnival and 8th Grade celebration
*       Funded two scholarships to graduating Evans' seniors
*       Presented multiple parent enrichment workshops
*       Helped to support academic programs like the spelling bee, UIL, and AVID
*       Hosted teacher appreciation events throughout the year
Most importantly, our PTO plays a crucial role in helping to create an environment that is nurturing, educational, and exciting for all of our Panthers. Our membership form is attached to this email. Please consider printing out this form and bringing it with you to Meet the Teacher on August 14th. Or go online at evanspto.com.

Upcoming Dates
*       August 14 - Meet the Teacher:  In addition to picking up schedules and meeting teachers, you can pick up school supply packs, order spirit wear, become a PTO member, and help us kick off our check-writing campaign. Again this year we will be offering "early bird hours" from 11 am - 1 pm. (The schedules and teachers will not be available during this time, but you can get spirit wear, membership, and school supplies without the long lines.)

Check-writing Campaign
After overwhelming parent feedback, we are again offering a check-writing campaign as our fundraiser ... NO SELLING required.  But, to meet our budget, we need all families to participate. For every $10 donated, your family will receive a raffle entry for some amazing prizes donated by local business. The fundraiser runs until August 31, but we will kick off the fundraiser at Meet the Teacher with a complimentary raffle ticket for each new membership and double tickets for all donations made that day.
Spirit Wear
The Evans PTO is offering new spirit wear as well as bringing back some old favorites. There is a long-sleeved t-shirt option as well as short-sleeved and glitter designs. The order form is attached or you can order online at evanspto.com.
If you'd like to skip the line entirely, you can do everything online at evanspto.com .
We are looking forward to another amazing year at Evans and partnering with our families to keep our school outstanding!

 WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS!

We are so lucky to have so many wonderful volunteers who make it possible for us to make our school the very best it can be!  Please remember that if you are a returning volunteer, or maybe a first time MISD volunteer, that you must go online to fill out a Volunteer Application and be approved before you can serve in any capacity where you will have contact with students.  Sometimes this takes a couple of weeks, so please do it as soon as possible!  We need you!!!
Click HERE to go directly to the link.
Thank you so very much!  We look forward to having you on our campus!
Note:
Volunteer applications may take up to two weeks to be processed.
If after two weeks you have not been contacted regarding your volunteer status, please contact MISD Human Resources at 469-302-4117. DO NOT contact staff members at schools regarding your volunteer application. Your application is a confidential matter.
Once you are approved, you will be able to volunteer in the district throughout the school year.
