Prayer Practice for the Week
Make Time
Make time. This exploration of Jesus will only be as meaningful as you make it. So make the time. Make the time to read the material. Make the time to do the activities. And, make time for silence, for uninterrupted, unfilled space. Thomas Keating reminds us: “Silence is God’s first language; everything else is a poor translation.” Set yourself a goal of 5 minutes each day to sit and listen.
Daily Devotion

Scripture of the Day
For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. ( 1 Corinthians 2:2)

Reflection
I can get lost in the particulars. I can get overexcited by nuance and complexity. But at the end of the day and at the beginning of the next, I come back to Jesus — the one who calls, teaches, counsels, compels, and encourages; the one who died alone that I might live among many.

Prayer
Jesus, thank you for your sacrifice — not only your death but your life also. And for your resurrection that proves death’s impotence and life’s permanence. I want to live with the same conviction and passion and willingness to let go so that others may hold on. Amen.
Spiritual Exercise

What do you make of the distinction between “the Jesus of History” and the “Christ of faith”? (10) Or, as Borg offers, the “pre-Easter Jesus” and the “post-Easter Jesus”? (15) Write a quick letter or an email to Jesus.
