Veterinarian Megan Davis, DVM Joins the VNoC/VIoC Staff

In June Megan Davis, DVM, joined the staff of Veterinary Neurology of the Chesapeake and Veterinary Imaging of the Chesapeake where she will focus on in-patient care, working closely with Dr. Jay McDonnell and Dr. Emily Kennedy. Dr. Davis, who has lived in Annapolis since 2014, received her DVM from Colorado State University, where she also earned a certification in medically-based acupuncture. She subsequently completed an internship in Diagnostic Imaging at Texas A&M University.

"I've always had a passion for neurology and radiology," said Dr. Davis. "I believe in Dr. McDonnell and the vision he has for the practice. It's all about the quality of patient care and maximizing the outcome. I'm especially pleased that Dr. McDonnell welcomes what acupunture can contribute to outcomes in neurological cases, including spinal cord injuries."  MORE>>

FDA Safety Alert About Gadolinium Based Contrast Agents: A Perspective
By  Kevin C. Stevens, ARRT, RT (R)(MR)

©2012redleash Dr. McDonnell & Kevin Stevens The FDA has issued a safety alert to the medical community, citing the possibility of long-term deposition of Gadolinium Based Contrast Agents (GBCAs) in brain tissue. Several recent publications and news articles have done a good job of sensationalizing the alert to claim that there is a known potential risk to patients.
I would like to take a few moments to provide the facts associated with this safety alert and help ease any fear or confusion surrounding the issue.

Pet Health Insurance 101
By Cheryl Lewis-Arnold, CVPM

I thought I knew a lot about pet health insurance, but it wasn't until this past month when I started researching the different companies for a new employee benefit that I really learned what the differences were and how to compare.

I urge every veterinary practice to inform their clients about pet insurance. The fact is that clients with pet health insurance will generally spend twice as much over their pet's lifetime. How would that help your bottom line? When I say inform your clients, I believe your team should be educated as well. Simply placing brochures from each company is not sufficient. Your clients are not looking for passive marketing, but instead your recommendation as a professional. Invite your top 3 or 4 reps from the companies to come in and educate your team so they can better answer client questions. MORE>>
