October 9, 2016 - Luino, Italy - Sunny Saturday in Luino has seen another three successful races at the second day of the Lino Favini Cup, changing the positions in the leader board and bringing closer the finale of the 2016 Melges 24 European Sailing Series and Melges 24 Italian Series. Italian teams and one Hungarian team now in top bring the same flag colours to the event results.

Like on the first day of the regatta the fleet went out before midday, but was enjoying the sunshine on the mirror-like Lake Maggiore until a southerly Inverna-wind started to blow like a clock work around 2 pm. Beautiful day presented three race winners to secure the top positions more clearly after the discard with six races sailed.

In the first race of the day Andrea Pozzi's Bombarda (ITA) with Giulio Desiderato as tactician on the board took a bullet with quite a remarkable margin ahead of the Akos Csolto's team Seven-Five-Nine, who made a great performance having on board Zsombor Berecz, Rio Olympian sailor in Finn class followed by another Hungarian team, Kalman Roznyay's FGF Sailing Team with Robert Bakoczy in helm.

Another bullet to the event's series was grabbed by EFG (SUI) team with Carlo Fracassoli in helm. Another great performance from the FGF Sailing Team finishing the race as second followed by the Corinthian leader, Miles Quinton's Gill Race Team (GBR) with Geoff Carveth in helm as third.

Robert Bakoczy and the FGF Sailing Team continued their consistent racing improving their performance with every race, and winning the last race of the day they jumped from the ninth position to the remarkable second. David Rowen's Imagine (GBR) with Jamie Lea calling the tactics finished the race as second followed by Carlo Fracassoli helming EFG boat as third.

EFG secured its strong position as the regatta leader with a discard of 11 points from the third race and with twelve points in total has a nine-points margin ahead of FGF Sailing Team (21 pts). Tricky conditions during the last race of the day gave a sixteenth result for Andrea Pozzi's Bombarda, but this was the result to discard bringing the team from the fourth position to the third, three points behind FGF.

In Corinthian division we can see a very close racing - the places from second to fourth are tied and the team ranked on fifth is only one point behind. Miles Quinton's Gill Race Team jumped to the lead of the Corinthian leader board with consistent racing and strong performance today with eighteen points in total. Yesterday's Corinthian leader, Niccolo Bianchi-Giacomo Fossati's Taki 4 (ITA) got their bowsprit broken during the second race of the day which stopped their racing dropping them to the eighth place. However, protest hearing and redress gave them the average points for races five and six and the second position in the ranking. At the same time Michael Tarabochia's White Room with Luis Tarabochia in helm and Eddy Eich's Musto Racing with Kicker Schäfer helming, are chasing hard being tied with Taki 4 and Miroslav Baran's Black Mamba following only one point behind as fifth.
