Final candidate forum set for April 18
With the primary election coming May 8, the Greater Kokomo Chamber of Commerce is partnering with community organizations to host candidate forums in contested races. 

The final forum will be 6 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 18,  at Inventrek Tech Park, 700 E. Firmin St., Kokomo. It  will feature candidates for county council district 3 and 4, and commissioner district 1. A reception will follow.

Meeting set for those interested in program

The next Habitat for Humanity information meetings will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 28, at the Main Branch of  the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library,  220 N. Union St.

The meeting is for people interested in becoming homeowners and have a gross monthly income of at least $1,400. This is the first step in becoming a part of the Habitat Homeownership Program.  The essential criteria for becoming a Habitat Partner Family include:
  • Need for adequate shelter.
  • Ability to pay for the Habitat home.
  • Willingness to partner and participate with building your home.
Applications will be handed out at the meeting. No RSVP needed.

Orchestra brings Broadway to Kokomo

Join Kokomo Symphony Orchestra for all the glitz and glamour as it showcases our amazing local talent in a concert of Broadway musical favorites, both new and old. They 'll perform many of the first great musicals by Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein, such as "Oklahoma!," and "The King and I," to Lerner and Loewe's "My Fair Lady," to "Fiddler on the Roof," "A Chorus Line," and "Wicked."

Of course, they will feature music from Indiana-born and raised composer Cole Porter. In a collaboration with the Kokomo Civic Theatre, they will feature members of the Kokomo community in lead solo roles in many of these musicals. They welcome anyone to dress in your best, but also welcome all to come and enjoy the program and join them on the red carpet for their tribute to Broadway!

Course helps prep you for home ownership

A partnership between Advantage Housing and First Farmers Bank & Trust, an upcoming course looks to help those wanting to make the transition to home ownership. 

Set for 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at First Farmers Bank & Trust, 101 W. Sycamore St., Kokomo, the course will cover setting a financial vision, making an action plan and more.

Country star Aaron Lewis coming to Honeywell

Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum artist Aaron Lewis will perform at 7:30 p.m. April 18 at  the Honeywell Center.

Lewis stuck with his country roots and released the country album "Sinner" in 2016, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. Hits included on the album are "That Ain't Country," "Whiskey and You," "Travelin' Soldier," and "Sinner," featuring Willie Nelson. 

Indiana-born Alex Williams will be the opening act for Lewis, playing traditional country and performing songs from his album "Better than Myself."
