Ivy Tech Corporate College: THE SMALL BUSINESS SERIES

Ivy Tech Corporate College is offering a series of classes this fall to help you take your business to the next level! The classes will be taught by local business owners and experts in their field. 

Small Business Finance with Aimee Romero

Aimee Romero, currently the senior mortgage banker for LeaderOne Financial in downtown Kokomo, has more than 14 years of experience in the mortgage/lending industry. Her area of expertise includes bank operations, and underwriting, processing and originating all types of loans.  She has served as president of the local lenders association and has been honored with a number of professional awards, including the 20 Under 40 Most Influential Award from the Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance. Smiles for Vets gives local veterans free dental care
Dr. Jarrell and Dr. Olivei ra of Family & Cosmetic Dentistry of Kokomo saw approximately 40 veterans and performed $14,220 free dental care as part of the recent Smiles for Vets. The dentists and other volunteers and doctors worked from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the day of the event.

Several local restaurants donated food for the volunteers and veterans, and the American Red Cross Blood Mobile was on hand for the event.
Do you have an idea for starting a new business?
Th e Hoosier Heartland Small Business Development Center is conducting several workshops for anyone interested in starting their own business. Its business advisor will provide a foundation for you to help determine if your business idea is feasible, and if so, the next steps you should take. Participants receive a comprehensive workbook and free one-on-one business consultation upon completion of the course workbook. 
Topics include money, marketing, management, grants and loans, business legal structure, taxes and other helpful hints. The workshop will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Cardinal Room of the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library South Branch,  1755 E. Center Road, Kokomo.

C ommunity Howard Hospital donates van to Project Access
In an effort to help residents of Howard County and to continue its commitment to improving the healthcare of  the community, Community Howard Hospital has donated a vehicle to Project Access that will serve as  a  Community Bus. The vehicle will be used for the organization's health assessments.

Flo Pogue joins The Hardie Group staff 
The Hardie Group has announced the addition of Flo Pogue to its staff of associates. Flo has three years of real estate experience. Her background including 28 years with General Motors and serving on the Kokomo Police Department. 

She earned her bachelor's degree in early childhood education from Purdue University and her master's degree in management from Indiana Wesleyan University. She and her husband, Denny, live in Kokomo and are the proud parents of Karyl, Brian and Brent. 
Lunch and learn with Golden Living-Sycamore Village
Golden Living-Sycamore Village, in partnership with the YMCA, is offering a free educational series geared toward older adults. Each session will be 11 a.m. to noon in the front activity room of the YMCA in downtown Kokomo. A free boxed lunch is provided to the first 70 participants.
The following sessions will be offered: 
* Oct. 20: Dr. Techsin Ty, MD, internal medicine, will discuss depression and anxiety
* Nov. 17: Julia Barrett, OTR, Aegis Therapy, will discuss c ardiac rehabilitation.

First Farmers Bank & Trust CEO/president receives award
The American Bankers Association has awarded Gene Miles, president and CEO o f First Farmers Bank & Trust , with the Bruning Award, the association's premiere award and designation for ag banking. The award will be presented at ABA National Agricultural Bankers Conference, Nov. 13-16 in Indianapolis.

Gene has served First Farmers for more than 38 years and his career has touched on nearly every capacity within the institution. He also is deeply engaged in the community, with outreach including volunteer leadership positions with St. Vincent Hospital, the Miami County Community Foundation, the Northern Indiana Community Foundation and the Miami County Economic Development Committee.

Annual Signature Chefs Auction in Kokomo benefits March of Dimes
The March of Dimes will present the annual Kokomo Signature Chefs Auction from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at the Elite Banquet & Conference Center. 

Local restaurants will offer tastings of their favorite dishes in a Roaring '20s themed atmosphere. The event is cocktail attire. There will be silent and live auctions, live music, and guest speakers that have been touched by the organizaton's mission. It Ambassador Family, the Butlers, will share their inspirational story of their son Cameron. Proceeds support healthier mothers and babies by preventing premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality.

First Nazarene invites community to Fall Fun Fest on Oct. 29
First Nazarene welcomes all families with children to its annual Fall Fun Fest.  Kids can collect lots of candy and prizes from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 29, at the church, 2734 S. Washington St. 

There will also be bounce houses, face-painting, games and crafts. Everything is free, including food for the whole family and a family photograph.
Children - parents, too - are encouraged to wear a costume. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
