Vol. 1, #4

Hello all,

The WEAC Region 3 Membership/PR Committee meets about once a month when we discuss and implement ideas to promote membership growth in our Locals.

One idea is this monthly "Membership Edition" of our WR3 newsletter that brings a membership focus to our work.

Another idea is our "Leadership Boot Camp," founded on the idea that developing leadership skills among our members helps our Locals thrive.

Membership isn't just a once-a-year concern. We don't just look to the beginning of school when we talk to new employees about joining our union. We think about ways to engage our members every day. Promotion of all our good work as union members is part of that engagement.

You can join us! Contact me for more information about our active committee.

"The Connection: Membership Edition" is the brainchild of Region 3's Membership and PR Committee: Greg Ubbelohde (New Holstein EA) & Kandace Larsen (Marinette EA) are the co-chairs and welcome new committee members at any time! We all hope you find this once-a-month publication inspiring and helpful!
Celebrate Success!

March 2 is Dr. Seuss's birthday and Read Across America Day. Students across the School District of New London have fun celebrating this every year! Pictured above is

Tip of the Month

The Ten-Minute Meeting
All too often we hear, "there's no reason to hold a meeting if there's nothing to report/decide/vote on." Or, we hear, "I'm not sure we have a union because there are never any meetings." But mostly, we hear, "I don't have TIME to go to ANOTHER meeting."

In December, we introduced the 10-minute meeting and the ways it can address all of the above. In January, we offered NEA Benefits as a topic for a 10-minute meeting, and in February, we took on voter registration and information about the primary election.

We'd like to hear from you! Are you trying the 10-minute meeting approach? How's it working? Reply  here to give us feedback.

This month, here's another topic:

WHO ARE WE?

It's nice to put a face together with a phone call. We have a 1-page flyer that has pictures of all the WEAC Region 3 (WR3) staff, along with contact information. On the flip side of the flyer is space for YOU to put contact information about YOUR local. How easy is that for a 10-minute meeting? Click here for a pdf. Contact Region 3 for an editable Word version.

BTW, the idea to include photos on this flyer came from a participant in the June 2016 Leadership Boot Camp - we love hearing from you about what works!
