Wings Kicks Off Summer May 25th!
This Saturday --- Rain or Shine  11 am - 5 pm

Car Show Logo for May 25

Wings Over Miami kicks off summer with their Memorial Day Weekend Music Festival and Car Show on Saturday, May 25th. Building on last year's successful Bluegrass Festival, the museum is back this summer with Bluegrass, a car show and classic planes. There will be a special appearance and book signing by Tuskegee Airman, Leo Gray and Florida East Coast Railway Historian, Seth Bransom.

On Saturday, at 11 am, with plans to repeat last year's outstanding performances, multiple bands from the South Florida Bluegrass Association take the stage to help raise funds for museum operations. New event partners, Benefit Car Shows and Bullseye Powder Coating is taking the lead on the car show by inviting South Florida's classic and specialty car owners to support the museum by entering their cars in an open car show.  Remarkably, 111 cars have already pre-registered with all the funds raised going directly to the museum. Some fun auto related happenings include Harley Davidson's stationary bike ride, a visit from the Jeep Crawlers and Sider-man and his specialty car.

The museum's planes will be out of the hangar and flying if the weather permits. As South Florida's only flying museum, a majority of the planes in the hangar are in flying condition. Due to the generosity of the aircraft sponsors, the planes fly for special events and oftentimes on weekends.

Other activities include Wings first-ever aviation photo exhibit and seminar sponsored by Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs. The photo exhibit will feature planes from the museum taken by local photographers, the youngest being four years old. The public is invited to vote for Best of Show and help launch this inaugural event.

Your Museum Needs You!
Community Neighbors Make a Difference

Over the years, Wings has had people in our community volunteer to  assist the museum in projects.  Oftentimes, the museum has not been able to tap into all the energy volunteers bring to the museum, but now we are ready to organize our volunteers and bring more helping hands into the museum.

We are excited to invite our friends and neighbors from the community to  help us spruce-up and grow. Maintaining an operating hangar and making headway against spider webs and dust takes many more people than we currently have on staff.

For those folks who don't mind a hour or so pushing a broom, the hangar would love the attention. For those of you who love the phone, we need folks who aren't timid about calling other people about the museum's special projects. And of course, as Wings develops programming we need people with special talents to learn about the planes history, lead tours, do art work, take photographs and be friendly souls for our guests to enjoy.

The museum needs a wide variety of skills and there is something for all of us to enjoy doing. Students are welcome log school volunteer hours.

If you have volunteered before and weren't able to connect with Wings, please give us a call or email us directly. Our website has a form to help you volunteer. By the way, we are going to reach out to anyone who has already used the web form and see if they still have time to share.

Save the Date
Save the Date!

Wings Over Miami is planning a Rocket Day event in celebration of the Apollo landing in July 20, 1969. FAA regulations may not allow us to launch from the museum, but we are going to have a fun day of rocket design and rocket building.

Do you know about the Nike Missile Bases in South Dade? Come to this fun event to hear the story of the bases as presented by a Nike Base specialist!

If you know anyone with a rocket or space background who would be able to be a special part of this day, please contact us!
